BS in Marketing FAQ

General - BS Marketing FAQ

Many marketing jobs report strong demand. BLS data projects that employment for market research analysts and marketing managers will grow at faster-than-average rates (+10%) between 2021-2031.

We have three student chapters: The American Marketing Association (AMA), the American Advertising Federation (AAF) and the Sales Club. These organizations provide a chance to meet and network with experienced industry officials, and participate in competitions and scholarship opportunities. The marketing department also engages with numerous other marketing organizations.

According to our 2021-2022 Senior Exit Surveys, our marketing undergraduates earned an average of $56,200 in their first year and 66% were employed within three months of graduation.

Earning your BS in Marketing can yield significant returns. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, jobs for Advertising, Promotions, and Marketing Managers earn a median pay of $133,380 and are projected to grow by 10% between 2021-2031.

Marketing majors can earn a Bachelor of Arts or a Bachelor of Science in marketing, depending on their school and program. Typically, a BA includes more foreign language, humanities and social science courses, while a BS includes more math and natural science courses. At JSOM, the undergraduate marketing degree is designated as a Bachelor of Science.

Careers in marketing report above-average salaries and strong projected job growth rates, making marketing a strong career choice. Many entry-level positions in marketing require a bachelor’s degree.

Effective marketing is essential to the success of every organization. In fact, anyone who is offering a product or service will benefit from having a marketing professional on their team.
