Introduction

The Dallas-Fort Worth region is a hotbed for retail corporations and related marketing, information technology and supply networks. The Center for Retail Innovation and Strategy Excellence (RISE) seeks to be the leader in an effective retail corporate response to disruptive technologies and digital transformation through service, research and education.

To make this a reality, RISE will provide a focus for improving the region’s response to the needs and opportunities created by unprecedented disruption and digital transformation. Disruption and digital transformation are related twin challenges that have made it a necessity for virtually all companies to enhance their corporate value and customer experience.

Today, new value can be unlocked by changing strategies or by restructuring operations or business systems. If corporate responses prove inadequate in the challenging environment, retail corporate boards, activist investors or private equity funds are likely to move in to force change.

RISE acts as a hub of engagement for the DFW regional retail industry and Jindal School faculty and students in the Marketing, Operations Management and Information Systems Areas. Engagement is based on six pillars, including:

  • Work with leading-edge faculty on retail-related research
  • Industry-funded research projects
  • Lecture series
  • Capstone projects for graduate and undergraduate classes
  • Case study competitions
  • Internships

The Center for Retail Innovation and Strategy Excellence, an interdisciplinary industry research initiative in The University of Texas at Dallas Naveen Jindal School of Management, is initiating partnerships with the leaders of America’s largest retail industries to collaborate on retail research, education and practice.

Our vision is to be the global educational leader in innovation through technological knowledge and strategy for the retail industries by:

  • Creating knowledge and thought leadership by facilitating academic research for retail industry challenges
  • Sponsoring global outreach as it relates to initiatives for industry, students and alumni
  • Engaging with retail leaders to participate in center events, research and teaching
  • Developing curriculum and course offerings for retail industry-sponsored project courses and providing career advisory services for University of Texas at Dallas students

The RISE center has established a group of core faculty from several schools at the University of Texas at Dallas. These faculty members conduct leading-edge research that cuts across multiple disciplines, including global supply chain, marketing analytics, e-commerce, pricing management, channel strategies, customer lifetime value, information systems and mobile technology.

We provide tailored programs and services responsive to the needs of faculty members in their drive to accomplish:

  • Creating knowledge and thought leadership by facilitating research used for industry applications.
  • Engaging industry leaders and academicians to disseminate knowledge and participate in Center activities.
  • Sponsoring student and alumni events and activities.
  • Developing curriculum, course offerings, and career advisory services for all University of Texas at Dallas students.

The center is the focal point for industry engagement for all areas related to Retail Innovation and Strategy Excellence (RISE). The center works with DFW companies and nonprofits, as well as with multinationals that have a major DFW presence. Companies work with us to sponsor center events, undergraduate and graduate student projects, and competitions. They also fund internships and work with graduate students and faculty on cutting-edge research.
