Complete the online application (one time) and submit it by the deadline posted above; no applications will be considered once the deadline has passed. Details regarding application requirements and instructions can be found at the application link below. A confirmation page will confirm your submission. Only online applications will be accepted. All applications for membership will be reviewed, and the candidates who will move to the next step in the membership process will be contacted via email. When the interview process is complete, students who are invited to join the Dean’s Council will be notified via email. Those who will not be invited this semester will also be notified via email.
The Dean’s Council is inclusive of all students who represent all degree programs in the Jindal School of Management.
To apply, each candidate must adhere to the following guidelines:
Graduate:
- 3.2 Cumulative GPA (will be verified)
- Must have completed at least 9 credit hours
- Able to actively serve for one academic year (two long semesters)
All Council members must attend all Dean’s Council meetings. Meetings are held on selected Saturday mornings between 10 a.m.- 12 p.m.

Please note there are limited openings per semester for new Dean’s Council members. If not selected in the current semester, the Dean’s Council Membership Committee encourages JSOM students to get involved and volunteer with other organizations in JSOM and apply again in a future semester.
Dean’s Council members can be dismissed for any conduct unbecoming of a council member. The responsibility to serve with dignity and dedication is a requirement of membership in this organization.

- Service Project – ADVOCATE VETERANS! The Service Project Team organized a Veterans 5K Run to recognize service members in the JSOM and UT Dallas community. We had several student veterans who participated with families and friends.
- 10th Annual JSOM OWLIE Awards - The OWLIE Awards continued as an in-person event in 2024 with a fun and engaging award ceremony. We celebrated the 10th annual OWLIE Awards by recognizing several key members of the JSOM community who have given decades of service to JSOM.
- Video Content – The Video Content Team produces short fun videos that help promote the Jindal school experience.
- We continue to serve as ambassadors for important Jindal School Events.
- Service Project – ADVOCATE STEM! The Service Project Team raised a total of $1,529 and was able to fund several projects for RISD Academy, including: Investigating Science with STEM Picture Books, Understanding How’d They Do That? with STEM Picture Books and Exploring Making and Coding with STEM Books. Members also visited RISD Academy on April 28, 2023 to read books to children.
- Service Project - ADVOCATE GRATITUDE! The Service Project team collected UTD-branded swag from JSOM Programs to assemble appreciation baskets for our custodial and technology staff.
- 9th Annual JSOM OWLIE Awards – The OWLIE Awards continued as an in-person event in 2023 with a fun and engaging award ceremony.
- We continue to serve as ambassadors for important Jindal School Events.
- Faces of JSOM – Faces of JSOM is a project that continues to showcase the spirit of the students, faculty and alumni of the Jindal School of Management. These interactions make us realize that everyone has their own story which connects the community and brings them closer.
- Home Video - The Video Project team created, produced, and edited a video conveying the spirit of JSOM. The song is written and produced solely for the purposes of this video, which JSOM will be able to use for upcoming webinars to share the unique experience that one can get at JSOM.
- 8th Annual JSOM OWLIE Awards – The OWLIE Awards returned to an in-person event in 2022 with a fun and engaging award ceremony including performers from the Indian Student Association, UTD Magic and a solo guitarist.
- Service Project - The Service Project Team has started planning a book drive to benefit local schools.
- We continue to serve as ambassadors for important Jindal School Events.
- Faces of JSOM – Faces of JSOM is a project that continues to showcase the spirit of the students, faculty and alumni of the Jindal School of Management. These interactions make us realize that everyone has their own story, which connects the community and brings them closer.
- Wise Words – The Wise Words Team focused on producing digital content from JSOM employers or alumni who can provide nuggets of advice, encouragement, interesting accomplishments, success stories that showcase otherwise unknown unique aspects of the Jindal School experience.
- Video Content – The Video Content Team produces short fun videos that help promote the Jindal school experience.
- Stylin’ Wise – The Stylin’ Wise team was charged with helping to support school tradition in the Jindal School by decorating or dressing the Dean’s Council mascot, Wise the OWL, for various school occasions and holidays.

- Stylin’ Wise – The Stylin’ Wise team was charged with helping to support school tradition in the Jindal School by decorating or dressing the Dean’s Council mascot, Wise the OWL, for various school occasions and holidays.
- 6th Annual JSOM OWLIE Awards (live-streamed virtually)
- We continue to serve as Ambassadors for important Jindal School Events.
- Wise Words - The Wise Words team recruited industry professionals, faculty and students to boost attendee knowledge about entrepreneurship, academics, volunteering and business management.
- Faces of JSOM – Faces of JSOM is a project that continues to showcase the spirit of the students, faculty and alumni of the Jindal School of Management. These interactions make us realize that everyone has their own story, which connects the community and brings them closer.
- Stylin’ Wise – The Stylin’ Wise team was charged with helping to support school tradition in the Jindal School by decorating or dressing the Dean’s Council mascot, Wise the OWL, for various school occasions and holidays.
- Branding Team – The Branding Team was charged with building the Dean’s Council brand for JSOM and for helping to support any efforts to increase the school’s profile or reputation. Initiatives ranged from supporting survey completion for rankings to creating programming that helps build and grow our reputation.

- Faces of Dean's Council - Faces of Dean’s Council profiles current graduate Dean’s Council members, as well as Alums, to highlight the accomplishments of our members, their multinational backgrounds, education and experience, as well as to track their progress to and beyond graduation.
- Faces of JSOM - Faces of JSOM is a project to showcase the spirit of the students, faculty and alumni of the Jindal School of Management. Being a platform for global interaction where everyone seems to be a stranger busy with their demanding schedules, these interactions make us realize that everyone has their own story, which connects the community and brings them closer.
- Orientation Video - A video that shows a working professional's transformation from part-time commuter student to full-time Comet.
- MS Oath - The MS Oath committee within the Dean’s Council has been tasked with writing an oath for all students who graduate from the MS program at UT Dallas. This will be a binding pledge that captures the core values that are embedded in us as Comets. Students are expected to take this oath upon their honor and always abide by the oath in everything that they do as future leaders.
- WiseWords - WISE WORDS ARE COMING! Wise Words is a student led initiative by the JSOM Graduate Dean’s Council to bring together creative and innovative speakers drawn from the UTD Student and faculty community, as well as from alumni and working professionals. The goal is to present our audience with four 15 minute presentations on diverse topics that might not otherwise be featured due to their out of the box perspective or lack of pointed industry specific focus. We hope that these talks can provide a platform for our speakers to share something unique with the audience and foster a well-rounded sense of life-long learning in the UTD community. Our first event is set to take place the last week of January 2018.

- Faces of JSOM Social Media: The next project that the Dean’s Council will spearhead is an attempt to recognize and celebrate ordinary people for their extraordinary personalities in an effort to build the reputation of JSOM.
- 2nd Annual JSOM OWLIE awards.
- Identified and connected with nearly 1000 MBA alumni to help build the brand of Jindal School of Management.
- Adopted the “Wise Owl” as the council’s mascot.
- Adopted the tradition of “Patting the Owl” for good luck on exams.
- 1st Annual JSOM OWLIE awards.
- Created the 1st Annual JSOM OWLIE Awards and organized all aspects of the award.
- Dean Council Traditions: Initiatives for efficient induction of new recruits and appreciation of graduating council members.
- JSOM Traditions: Strengthening the JSOM brand with traditions with PAT the OWL for good luck.
- Graduate Traditions: Ongoing project to foster a culture of giving back to JSOM.
- Identified and connected with nearly 2000 alumni to help build the brand of Jindal School of Management.
- Started the JSOM Success story contest to publish the achievements of the JSOM Students.
- Worked on developing a new peer-to-peer mentoring system that would provide the students with career-specific guidance.
- Host MBA networking events for current MBA students
- Create Recognition Wall to emphasize the great accomplishments of our JSOM students, faculty and
staff in spring 2013 - Implement Golden Comet award system where students nominate faculty to be recognized in spring 2013
- Organizing a JSOM student organization showcase to take place in spring 2013
- Create maintenance and beautification proposals regarding improvements to the overall look of the school.
- Hosted MBA networking events for current MBA students.
- Improved access to the JSOM’s computer labs.
- Created the official Dean’s Council Website.
- Created a committee to help student organizations create their websites.
- Helped with re-establishing floundering student organizations, growing our student groups from 9 in 2008 to 19 in 2010 to 29 in 2011.
- Built and orchestrated the “Reputation Matters” campaign to help promote the Jindal School of Management brand in rankings.
- Worked to extend the school’s cafe hours to accommodate the break time for evening students.
- Orchestrated getting the university to extend evening orange student parking to begin at 4:00 p.m. instead of 6:00 p.m. University withdrew the change, and the Council is continuing to work to get it back.
- Created a brochure for the JSOM organizations to be given to all new incoming students.
- Arranged a meeting with UT Dallas technical staff and students to resolve wireless problems.
- Volunteered to lead a “Cans from the Classroom” food drive campaign to give to the North Texas Food Bank; the goal was to collect one can for every JSOM constituent (over 500 cans) in Fall 2008 and over 1800 cans in Fall 2009.
- Hosted a Welcome Back event on September 2, 2008.
- Hosted Karaoke in the Courtyard on August 23, 2009.
- Hosted “Ask the Dean” sessions.
- Four JSOM Faculty began teaching Rhetoric 1101 as per the recommendation of the Council (RHET 1101 is the required university freshman class that orients students to the UTD campus).
- Provided feedback to the Dean to acquire more furniture in the building for students to lounge on.
- Provided feedback to the deans asking for study tables in the common areas during the week prior to finals and during finals.
- Responded to finance students who needed access to Bloomberg terminals in the early evening; hired students to work the additional hours.
