What is the second-largest field of employment in the DFW Metroplex? Healthcare. The Healthcare Management concentration within the Bachelor of Science in Business Administration degree program focuses on the creative, technical and financial skills necessary to direct medical facilities, both large and small. Along with changes to technology, changes to society have created the need for exciting, dynamic and challenging new ways of providing healthcare. The goal of the Healthcare Management concentration is to develop the administrative talent to meet these needs.

For students considering a career in business, the world of healthcare management will offer great challenges, opportunities and rewards. Hardworking healthcare careerists will be rewarded with increasing responsibility and chances for career advancement. Management careers are diverse, ranging from leadership roles in hospital administration, physician and dental clinics, and managed-care organizations to roles in such public firms as pharmaceutical companies, biotech firms, consulting companies and governmental agencies.

For pre-health students, a core knowledge of the business side of healthcare is becoming increasingly more essential. Clinical practitioners – physicians, dentists and allied health professionals — will benefit from learning the business and leadership skills offered in the healthcare management concentration. These vital skills will not be offered as part of the curriculum in professional schools.

Tomorrow’s healthcare leaders may look forward to a career of great satisfaction combined with an opportunity to contribute to the welfare of our society. The concentration in healthcare management is a good place to start.
