My Fall internship was a step up from the summer internship at Copart. In the summer, I honed skills like SQL, Tableau, Python, and Excel that I had learned in my coursework. I applied these skills to build POCs and solve ad-hoc queries of stakeholders. Post-summer, I undertook projects like Anomaly Detection and NL2SQL and completed tasks with greater responsibilities and independence. My ad-hoc tasks included building dashboards for various internal customers. One example is the dashboard I built for the newly implemented subhauler recommendation system. The aim of the dashboard was to analyze how much money the recommendation system had saved for the company since its implementation. I used Tableau to create the dashboard and wrote a custom SQL query to get the data needed for the dashboard using CTEs and subqueries. This project taught me how the company’s subhauler system for picking up vehicles works. Also, I learned how to convey information clearly and concisely to stakeholders through visualizations and story-telling. The NL2SQL project aimed at building a tool to generate an SQL query to answer any business question a user might have. I did plenty of research and had a first-hand chance of exploring LLMs. Coincidently, I was also attending Applied Natural Language Processing (NLP) classes as part of my coursework then. As a result, I was able to better appreciate topics like LLM agents, text embeddings, vector store, similarity search, and prompt engineering. Finally, using Streamlit and Python to build the tool exposed me to software development and product management side as well. I want to thank my manager, Hardik Bhavsar, for the opportunity to intern at Copart and for ensuring I had an extensive learning experience. I want to thank my team lead, Aashish Khadka, for guiding me through the internship period. Lastly, I thank Prof. Sunela Thomas and Sivya Leventhal for making this internship happen. #JSOM #UTDMSBA #COPART
