Trip 1: Camp Grady Spruce – A YMCA camp
Earn 40 hours of service work during the trip, March 16 – March 21
Live and work at a West Texas camp on the shores of Possum Kingdom Lake
Register with your mandatory nonrefundable $100 deposit. Start your registration HERE.Service work will include:
- Landscaping around newly constructed facilities at the camp
- Building new picnic benches
- Helping staff with spring break elementary school visitors to Camp Grady Spruce
Requirements:
- Mandatory nonrefundable fee: $100
- You must be a JSOM undergraduate student with at least a 2.5 GPA to be selected
- Space is limited. Participants will be selected on a first-come, first-served basis among qualified applicants
What’s included in your fee:
- Transportation to/from UTD campus
- All meals at the camp dining hall and lodging in camp cabins
- All tools/materials needed to do your service work
- A university staffer will be with you during the entire week
Leisure time activities could include:
Hikes in the woods and along the shoreline; Campfires; Evening movies with camp staff; Canoeing (if weather is OK); Time to study, nap, read a book, play card games, etc.

Once you are confirmed for the trip:
- You’ll get forms you must complete and submit
- A packing list for the trip
- You must attend a mandatory 30-minute meeting to meet your crew and university staffer who will go with you on the trip
- This trip will leave mid-afternoon on Sunday, March 16 and return 6-7 p.m. Friday, March 21. You may not arrive late or depart early from this trip
Trip 2: Dallas Service and Advocacy
Earn 40 hours of service work during spring break, March 17 – March 21
Meet at UTD campus every morning about 8 a.m. (time to be announced by JSOM trip leader). Return to campus about 5 p.m.

Service work will include:
- Dallas area agencies that work with children, homeless or others who face a lot of challenges
- You will be going to several different agencies to help out during the week so you can sample the different nonprofits at work in the nearby community

- You must be a JSOM undergraduate student with at least a 2.5 GPA to be selected
- Space is limited. Participants will be selected on a first-come, first-served basis among qualified applicants

- Transportation to/from UTD campus
- All meals while you’re doing service work (at least lunch; possibly others)
- All tools/materials needed to do your service work
- A university staffer will be with you during the entire week

General information
Any Jindal School undergrad student who has a minimum 2.5 GPA and not completed their service requirement OR has not completed or is enrolled in the following classes may participate.
- BA 4095 Social Sector Engagement and Community Outreach Practicum (Zero SCH)
- BPS 4396 Social Impact and Community Engagement
- IMS 4335 Social Sector Entrepreneurship and Community Engagement
- ENTP 4340 Social Sector Entrepreneurship and Community Engagement
- MKT 4360 Social Impact Marketing
All trips will be “chaperoned” by a Responsible University Official (RUO).
Students must follow all UTD student protocols and requirements while on these trips. This includes but is not limited to prohibition of alcoholic beverages, smoking, vaping, use of explosives and carrying firearms.
Students who are not selected for trips will get their $100 fee refunded.
