This Fall!
Three places to take a voyage and do community service over the Nov. 7-8-9 weekend (Friday, Saturday and Sunday).
Pay for Voyagers Trip Register for Your Trip- Camp Grady Spruce on Possum Kingdom Lake west of Fort Worth. You’ll leave campus early Friday, Nov. 7 and return late on Sunday, Nov. 9. (You’ll have opportunities to study while you’re there.) Work may include camp maintenance, helping with school kids visiting that weekend or other tasks. All food is provided, you will need a sleeping bag or bed roll; housing is in rustic cabins; appropriate clothes and a great attitude are required. You must attend one mandatory meeting with your Responsible University Official (chaperone and driver) before the trip. The RUO will remain onsite with you for all three days.
- Cost: $100, nonrefundable. Your reservation is confirmed with your $100 payment. Six slots available.
- First come, first served.
- You will get credit for 24 volunteer hours.
- Camp Bette Perot, a Girl Scout camp, near Palestine, TX. You’ll leave campus early Friday, Nov. 7 and return late on Sunday, Nov 9. (You’ll have opportunities to study while you’re there.) Work may include camp maintenance, helping with school kids visiting that weekend or other tasks. All food is provided (some of the cooking will be done over campfires or in Dutch ovens for a real campout experience). Housing is in rustic cabins; you’ll need a sleeping bag or bed roll, appropriate clothes and a great attitude. You must attend one mandatory meeting with your Responsible University Official (chaperone and driver) before the trip. The RUO will remain onsite with you for all three days.

- Trinity River Audubon Center in south Dallas County. You’ll leave UTD campus early Friday, Nov. 7 and return late the same day; you’ll leave early Saturday, Nov. 8 and return the same day. (You’ll be sleeping at home on Friday night, this is a day trip only.) Work will focus on trail maintenance and removing invasive plants from the nature areas. It may include repair work to bird blinds and other rustic structures on the property. You will be provided with lunch and snacks each day. You must attend one mandatory meeting with your Responsible University Official (chaperone and driver) before the trip. The RUO will remain onsite with you for both days.
- Cost: $50, nonrefundable. Your reservation is confirmed with your $50 payment. Six slots available.
- First come, first served.
- You will get credit for 16 volunteer hours.
Register for the trip you want to take.
- You’ll get forms you must complete and submit.
- You must attend a mandatory 30-minute meeting to meet your crew and university staffer who will go with you on the trip.
What’s included in your fee:
- Transportation to/from UTD campus
- All meals while you’re doing service work (at least lunch; possibly others)
- All tools/materials needed to do your service work
- A university staffer will be with you during the trip
Once you are confirmed for the trip:
- You’ll get forms you must complete and submit
- You must attend a mandatory 30-minute meeting to meet your crew and university staffer who will go with you on the trip

General information
Any Jindal School undergrad student who has a minimum 2.5 GPA and not completed their service requirement OR has not completed or is enrolled in the following classes may participate.
- BA 4095 Social Sector Engagement and Community Outreach
Practicum (Zero SCH) - BPS 4396 Social Impact and Community Engagement
- IMS 4335 Social Sector Entrepreneurship and Community Engagement
- ENTP 4340 Social Sector Entrepreneurship and Community Engagement
- MKT 4360 Social Impact Marketing
All trips will be “chaperoned” by a Responsible University Official (RUO).
Students must follow all UTD student protocols and requirements while on these trips. This includes but is not limited to prohibition of alcoholic beverages, smoking, vaping, use of explosives and carrying firearms.
Students who are not selected for trips will get their $100 fee refunded.
