Prompted to write something about our school, I find my memories of campus, flowing in and welling up in my mind like a joyful song. This is the third year of my PhD life at the Naveen Jindal School of Management. As time passes by, I appreciate more the amazing grace that has brought me to study and live here. Doing research is tough and challenging, but it is exciting to explore the unknown in academic fields, while at the same time humbly remaining cognizant of the inherent limitations of my knowledge.
In this program, we profit from wonderful professors and cohorts. Professors are helpful in answering questions, guiding research or expressing their philosophy of life. The JSOM Business Communication Center provides professional guidance in spoken and written English.
The cohort is a big family, supporting each other in the tasks of research and teaching. More senior students bequeath to up-and-coming colleagues the study materials for the difficult qualifying exams and share experience in job seeking. With the goal of helping each other develop research ideas, for three years now our cohorts have organized weekly brown-bags. We also sometimes have a relaxed gathering, such as grabbing food, sharing snacks, visiting the local botanical garden or simply taking a walk.
Professor Riki Takeuchi holds taekwondo practice on Friday afternoon in the gym and teaches it with great patience and passion (for free!).
These memories seemingly have sculptured the time into something that makes my heart blossom. Thanks for this blessing of undertaking this journey alongside these beautiful people.
