The University of Texas at Dallas is a relatively young university, officially launched in 1969, with the first PhD in management awarded in 1977. The prestige of the program was quickly established, with graduates taking jobs at top-ranked institutions all over the world.

The PhD programs rigorously prepare students for an academic career, with two years of research methodology courses followed by three years of directed independent study and dissertation research. Every student also receives the opportunity to teach at least one class during the program.

Funding
JSOM provides generous funding to all admitted PhD applicants in the form of a teaching or research assistantship, which consists of a stipend, and tuition and fee waivers. Students are given a generous travel and research budget, which enables travel to conferences and can be used for other research-related expenses.

The University of Texas at Dallas has a unique international student community, and is tied for 11th nationwide in terms of campus ethnic diversity (2018 U.S. News & World Report Best Colleges Rankings). The university has over 300 registered student organizations, and it hosts events like International Week, which celebrates all the cultures represented at UTD.
