Dennis McCuistion, Naveen Jindal School of Management clinical professor and executive director of the Institute for Excellence in Corporate Governance, is among honorees recently selected by D CEO magazine to receive one of its 2014 Financial Executive Awards.
McCuistion earned the Excellence in Corporate Governance Award.
“Corporate governance essentially means the system by which a company is run,” reporter Jeff Bounds wrote in the The Top Corporate Finance Pros in Dallas-Fort Worth in the May-June issue. “And if you need to get up to speed on it, there is one person in North Texas to call: Dennis McCuistion.”
McCuistion follows in the footsteps of IECG founder, the late Professor Constantine Konstans (1935-2013), both in receiving the D CEO award and in leading the institute. Konstans was the recipient of the first Excellence in Corporate Governance Award in 2011, and McCuistion succeeded him at the helm of the institute in late 2010.
A bank CEO before he was 30, McCuistion found a second life in education in 1971. “The first class I taught was called Principles of Bank Operations,” he said. “How different that class would be now!”
McCuistion brought to JSOM decades of experience both as an adviser to corporations and as a commentator to the masses. Serving on many corporate boards, including three publicly traded companies in the last 10 years, he has long been an advocate for responsible leadership. He has broadcast the same message as longtime host of his self-named national PBS show, McCuistion.
“Corporate governance has been a huge part of my life, and television is an avocation of mine that helps to educate,” he says. “I get energized from both.”
D CEO annually partners with the Dallas CPA Society, the local chapter of Financial Executives International and the Association for Corporate Growth to select financial executive honorees in several categories, including Outstanding Chief Financial Officer at a public company, private company and nonprofit, and Outstanding Public Service.
