Marguerite (Margo) McClinton Stoglin, a 2014 MBA alumna of the Naveen Jindal School of Management, has been named a recipient of a 2018 Dallas Business Journal Women in Business Award. Honorees this year were recognized at an awards luncheon Aug. 23 at the Omni Dallas Hotel.

Stoglin was recognized for her work as Texas state director of IGNITE, a nonprofit that trains the next generation of female political leaders. Her responsibilities included supervising strategic planning, program management, fundraising and budget management of the organization’s Texas programs. During her more than three-year tenure — she stepped down in July — programming expanded dramatically. IGNITE now trains young women at more than 45 schools and colleges across Texas, organizing them to vote, run for office and become civically engaged.

“Margo is a good strategist, and was able to look at the long view and forecast where IGNITE was heading and what we needed to get there,” said Dr. Anne Moses, president and founder of IGNITE.

The organization’s mission is a reflection of Stoglin’s personal belief that more women should become involved in politics and civic issues. “Women always want to say they’re not qualified,” she said. “But they are qualified, and they should get involved.”

Stoglin grew up understanding the importance of civic involvement. Her grandfather, Curtis McClinton Sr., was the first black state senator in Kansas. Stoglin’s father was in public service, and she has worked on numerous political campaigns and has co-authored books on women in leadership.

“My family has always had a giving back mindset,” she said.

Now that she has left IGNITE, Stoglin, a fourth-generation entrepreneur, plans to concentrate on her consulting business, CRM & Associates LLC, which she launched in 2011, and her family. “I have a 2-year-old and an 11-year-old,” she said, “so that keeps me busy.”

Stoglin credits JSOM’s MBA program for contributing to her success. “With an MBA from UT Dallas, you can do anything,” she said. “I love working with Monica Powell [senior associate dean and dean of JSOM graduate programs]. Her staff and the administration there take good care of their students.”

Prior to attending JSOM, Stoglin received an undergraduate degree in education and sociology from Emory University. She received her first master’s degree from Harvard University in 1999, and her doctorate from Florida State University. She serves on the board of directors for the Family Place, and volunteers for a number of nonprofits, including Fort Worth Rotary, United Way of Metropolitan Dallas and Rainbow Days.
