Dr. Paul Convery is Clinical Professor of Healthcare
Leadership and Management in the Naveen Jindal School of Management at the
University of Texas Dallas. He has over
twenty years of experience as a senior health care executive in multiple health
care organizations. His leadership
experience and expertise includes physician leadership development and
coaching, health care organizational strategy, quality improvement, patient
safety, clinical informatics, managed care, the organized medical staff, and
medical group operations.
Dr. Convery served as the Senior Vice President and Chief
Medical Officer for the Baylor Health Care System in Dallas, Texas from 2006
until 2013. From 1999 to 2006, he was
Executive Vice President and Chief Medical Officer for SSM Health Care – St.
Louis in St. Louis, Missouri. He also
served as President of two hospitals in the St. Louis market for SSM. Prior to
that, he served as Chairman of the St. Louis Medical Group and
President/Medical Director of Southwest Medical Center, both large multispecialty
groups in St. Louis. Dr. Convery is a
Board Certified internist, who practiced internal medicine for over twenty
years. In 2008, Baylor Health Care System was awarded the NQF National Quality
Healthcare Award. In 2002, SSM Health
Care was the first health care winner of the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality
Dr. Convery served as the Chair of the Provider Council and
on the Leadership Network of the National Quality Forum. He also served on the Board of Directors of
the Institute for Clinical Quality and Value, and on the Education and Research
Foundation Board of the Dallas – Fort Worth Hospital Council. He has served on multiple hospital boards and
health system boards, as well as other nonprofit boards.
Dr. Convery has lectured both nationally and internationally
on health care quality improvement, physician leadership development and health
care system organizational strategies.
He has authored or co-authored several book chapters and articles on
physician leadership and quality.
Dr. Convery has an undergraduate degree from St. Louis
University; graduated from medical school at the University of Illinois; is a
Fellow of the American College of Physicians and a Fellow of the American
College of Physician Executives; and received a Masters of Medical Management
from Tulane University.
