If you had $15,000 to enhance your entrepreneurial future, what would you do with it?

Texas Business Hall of Fame

The Texas Business Hall of Fame Foundation is calling Jindal School students to apply for its $15K scholarships, which are supported by various donors throughout the state. If you demonstrate entrepreneurial aspiration, show leadership both in and outside the classroom and are planning to pursue a career in Texas, then this is the perfect opportunity for you.

UT Dallas students Konan Mirza, Brian Hoang and Tina Dimitrova each won a scholarship last year. Dimitrova, a JSOM finance senior, said she needed to cultivate a network of advisors and investors, and applying for this scholarship was a good start. “I’m excited about getting a chance to meet businesspeople who are in the Texas Business Hall of Fame and speaking with them,” she said. “I will be able to find out how they got to where they are and get snippets of advice from them.”

Skeptical about applying? Brian Hoang, a software engineering senior in the Erik Jonsson School of Engineering and Computer Science, said if this scholarship even remotely sparks an interest, you should definitely give it a shot. “There’s absolutely nothing to lose,” he said. “You’ll learn a lot about yourself during the competitive process; so regardless of the outcome, you’ll walk away with much more than what you started with.”

Dimitrova urges you to take advantage of this opportunity. “You gain much more than just financial aid from the Texas Business Hall of Fame scholarship,” she said. “You gain lifelong access to a community that inspires change as well as the chance to further your projects, ideas, and knowledge. There is really no downside to applying.”

The application deadline is February 1, and finalists will be selected in April for additional interviews. Eligibility requirements:

  • Grad/MBA students (preferred) — But undergrads, note: Mirza, Hoang and Dimitrova, all bachelor’s degree students, prevailed last year!
