We’re Answering Your Questions About Registration

by - August 13th, 2015 - Joining JSOM

We are now in our last few weeks of fall registration. Soon, classes will begin, and we will be off to another good academic semester. Because a lot of registration activity will be taking place between now and the end of the month, I want to share some of the most frequently asked registration questions the JSOM Advising Office receives.

Q: When can I register?

A: Registration usually begins in early November for the spring semester and in early March for the summer and fall terms. You can view your registration time in the Student Center in Galaxy. The Academic Calendar will outline when the different enrollment times will be assigned.

Q: My Student Center indicates that I have an enrollment appointment; do I have to come in to see an advisor at that time?

A: Not necessarily. The enrollment appointment is not an appointment. It is a specific day and time when you can begin registering in coursework through Galaxy. If you have questions, however, please feel free to reach out to your academic advisor.

Q: I have a hold on my account; can you help me register by overriding the hold?

A: No. Most holds are registration blocks that must be cleared before registration. The hold includes contact information to help you determine which office will help you clear it.

Q: Course Lookup shows that a course has available seats, but Galaxy indicates that the course is closed. Which is correct?

A: Galaxy will provide the most up-to-date information regarding a course’s true status. Course Lookup is only updated a few times a day, so its information will not be the most up to date. Please note that Course Lookup is a valuable tool for researching the course, faculty, prerequisites, syllabi, and textbooks.

Q: When do I have to pay my tuition?

A: The Academic Calendar (second page) and Office of the Bursar page will provide information regarding payment deadlines.

Q: When is the last day I can register or drop a class?

A: The Academic Calendar will indicate the last day of regular and late registration along with the last day to drop a class. It is also a good idea to review the refund schedule on the second page, as a refund may not available after a specified deadline.

As you finalize your fall schedule and prepare for the beginning of the semester, keep actively checking your UTD email account. That is the fastest way we can reach you with any updates or announcements throughout the registration period.

For more information, feel free to make an appointment with the JSOM Advising Office.
