Assistant professor Federico Siano

New UTD Faculty This Year

The University of Texas at Dallas will proudly welcome dozens of new faculty members this coming 2022-2023 academic year. These professors join the UTD team in conducting important research and teaching the next generation of professionals. Joining them, Dr. Federico Siano enters the Jindal School of Management as an assistant professor of accounting.

About Professor Siano’s Education

Students may find it surprising that in professor Siano’s early education he felt little interest in math and made poor grades. His academic performance concerned his mother, who he says took him to doctors to try and determine if he had a problem learning math. However, once the young professor Siano learned the basic underlying rules of math, it began to click for him. His skills improved so much that he was able to go on to win major math and physics competitions.

Professor Siano studied at Bocconi University from 2006 to 2011, earning both a bachelor’s and a master’s degree. Before seeking his doctorate at Boston University, he spent four years in the finance sector working as an investment and consulting professional. One of his major roles during this period was as the Head of Listing at the Milan Stock Exchange, and he feels his work helping achieve better transparency in the trade was one of his great professional accomplishments.

When professor Siano began his studies at Boston University, he had no previous experience with programming. Upon graduating with his doctorate in accounting this past spring, professor Siano had achieved significant mastery of the skill. Now considered an expert in his field, he receives requests to peer review papers for academic journals.

Joining UTD Faculty

Professor Siano interviewed at multiple institutions and schools but was most impressed by the people at UTD, who he describes as incredibly energetic, passionate, and open-minded. Along with the wealth of resources available to him on UTD campus, professor Siano felt he had found a promising environment to conduct his research.

Professor Siano’s New Role at UTD

Professor Siano’s start date with UTD was July 15th and during this upcoming fall semester he will be teaching Introductory Financial Accounting to undergraduates. He feels excited to step into the classroom and contribute to the development of his coming students. His research will focus on how textual information contributes to decision-making in capital markets.

Outside of his work at UTD, professor Siano enjoys playing tennis and visiting the movie theater on the weekends. The Jindal School of Management is pleased to have professor Siano on board for the coming academic year.
