The following are some Dallas-Fort Worth clubs and national marketing organizations that marketing students should consider attending or joining. If you at the graduate level, networking with industry professionals should be one of your top priorities.
American Marketing Association:
This organization serves as a forum to connect like-minded individuals, foster knowledge sharing, provide resources, tools and training; and support marketing practice and thought leadership around the globe. To join our school chapter, please go to our UT Dallas AMA website. The cost is $45 per year.
The local professional chapter, AMA DFW, has more than 1,000 members. Find AMA DFW events at the DFW AMA website.
American Advertising Federation:
The aim of AAF Dallas is to provide thought leadership by discussing the latest trends in technology, creativity and marketing. We do not have a school chapter. We recommend students join the professional chapter at the student rate of $55 per year. I especially recommend the Ad 2 Dallas young professional group. Membership is open to anyone 32 or younger who is interested in the local advertising industry and costs $75 per year.
Data Analytics Meetups:
Visit the Data Analytics Meetups in Dallas page for different analytics seminars and events throughout the area. There is no umbrella association at this time. Some events are more geared to developers, so be sure to read the description of every subgroup and meeting.
DFW Interactive Marketing Association:
The leading forum for interactive marketing in the DFW Metroplex, the DFW Interactive Marketing Association is a forum for local interactive professionals, businesses and educators dedicated to sharing ideas, information and best practices that will help define and develop the growing interactive marketing industry and its disciplines.
Dallas User Experience Group:
Serving the needs of web designers and other usability professionals in the greater Dallas-Fort Worth area, the Dallas User Experience Group is the local chapter of User Experience Professionals Association. Network with other designers, listen to speakers at monthly meetings, learn best practices at a workshop and attend the Big Design Conference to learn from industry experts.
DFW Search Engine Marketing Association:
Its goal is to promote search-engine marketing and increased return on investment for companies and their websites through best practices. The DFW SEM Association has a major State of Search Conference every October. Members are highly skilled in the areas of copywriting, web hosting, web design, web analytics, internet application development, affiliate-program development and strategy, social media, search-engine optimization, pay-per-click campaigns and emerging media.
Social Media Dallas:
The primary mission of Social Media Dallas is to expand digital media literacy, promote standard technologies, encourage ethical behavior and share best practices. The club hosts conversations that explore key issues facing our society as technologies transform the way we connect, communicate, collaborate and relate to each other.
Product Management:
Because there currently is no product management student chapter, I recommend that you look at the Product Development and Management Association website. It offers student membership and New Produce Development Professional certification.
Digital Summit Dallas:
Digital Summit Dallas, to be held at the Irving Convention Center on December 5 and 6, bills itself as the “definitive digital marketing gathering.” The two-day event brings together professional and others interested in the industry to network and learn best practices, latest trends and strategy in email, marketing, mobile, search-engine optimization, user-experience design, video and more.
