Representing JSOM in Oxford, England

Raluca Narita and Rishi Patel, both Biology and Healthcare Management double majors who are expected to graduate this coming Spring of 2023, recently had the honor of presenting research at the 2022 Academy of Strategic Management Conference hosted by Oxford University’s Said Business School.

The overall aim of the conference was to bring together people who were interested in exploring new strategies for managing problems in their respective fields. A variety of different subjects were covered in presentations by students and academics from around the world.

Presenting Research at the Conference

JSOM student Raluca Narita presents at the 2022 Academy of Strategic Management Conference.

Raluca Narita presented research on the impact of health insurance on the consumption of healthcare in the United States. Her project began with an international business class at UT Dallas almost a year before the presentation. When the opportunity arose to go to Oxford, Raluca was excited to take her research to a broader audience.

JSOM student Rishi Patel presents research at the 2022 Academy of Strategic Management Conference.

Rishi Patel presented research on how the COVID-19 crisis changed the healthcare landscape and what could be predicted to happen during similar events in the future. One of the areas he focused on was the far-reaching effects of the disrupted supply chain on providing medical equipment for healthcare workers. In concluding his presentation, he proposed some solutions for better managing necessary resources like ensuring local suppliers for essentials in the event of international trade disruption.

The Next Steps on the Journey

Raluca Narita and Rishi Patel both hope to have their research papers potentially published in journals. Raluca aspires to attend medical school hopefully the year after she graduates from UT Dallas. Rishi also hopes to become a physician and plans to attend medical school after his undergraduate degree.

Both students value their time learning about the business side of healthcare at JSOM and look forward to graduating this Spring of 2023.
