Welcome to the Herbert D. Weitzman Institute for Real Estate at UT Dallas Naveen Jindal School of Management

The institute owes its existence to a $3 million legacy gift from longtime Texas commercial real estate businessman Herbert D. Weitzman and his wife, Donna. They wanted to support mentoring programs in real estate that would teach students to be entrepreneurial.

I am such a supporter of bringing in young people out of college,” Weitzman has said. “That’s one of our purposes with being a partner with UT Dallas. I think there is phenomenal opportunity here. This university is a phenomenal asset to the city, and it was the right fit. It’s the right location at the right time with the right people leading it.

Herb Weitzman is founder and executive chairman of Weitzman, which operates full-service commercial real estate offices in all of the major Texas markets of Austin, Houston and San Antonio, as well as Dallas-Fort Worth. He has worked in commercial real estate, specializing in retail, since 1960. The Dallas Morning News has dubbed him “Mr. Retail,” and he considers himself “a son of Dallas.”

The real estate programs in the Jindal School enjoy support from alumni, businesses, trade organizations and the surrounding communities. Being in the DFW Metroplex with over seven million residents, our students benefit from one of the top business environments in the country. Our five outstanding faculty members, with more than 175 years combined experience, are dedicated to advancing our students’ careers.

I would be remiss if I did not spotlight our Real Estate Club, a student-led organization. Any UT Dallas student may join the club. Members meet with UT Dallas alumni in the industry to develop professional networks and facilitate internships and full-time employment. Students may participate in real estate case competitions, field trips and projects, as well.

We encourage students, community friends and corporate supporters to get involved at the institute. Please email me to express your interest. I look forward to connecting with you.

Academic Programs

The Herbert D. Weitzman Institute for Real Estate builds upon the Jindal School’s already successful undergraduate and graduate-level programs. The institute will provide resources, such as access to experts in the field who have worked with Herb Weitzman over the past 60 years and more case competition participation — to be expanded regionally and even nationally — further enhancing student experience.
