My degrees provided a strong foundation for healthcare management. I started with a fundamental knowledge of the healthcare industry and consistently built upon that knowledge with courses such as Healthcare Law, Analytics and Strategic Leadership to prepare me for my career. Having a degree from UT Dallas is a conversation starter for networking or interviewing, especially since UT Dallas students have won the ACHE (American College of Healthcare Executives) Case Study Competition multiple times, increasing the credibility of the MS in Healthcare Leadership and Management degree.

After being in the UT Dallas MBA program and talking about different careers, I learned that internal auditors are problem solvers. There’sa balance in auditing – seeing the problem using data coupled with the creativity to figure out the best solution. My understanding that there’s a balance between analysis and creativity when using data to solve problems prepared me for my role as Data Analytics Director at McKesson.

Both of the degrees earned at UT Dallas have aligned with what I’m doing today. UT Dallas has allowed me to come back to campus and take classes as I’ve needed to hone skills in new areas. I’ve been able to grow professionally and intellectually over the years, and UT Dallas has been part of that journey every step of the way. In addition to the classes I’ve taken, I’ve loved being able to come back to campus to hear speakers, join events and watch the campus grow in stature, physical infrastructure, and as an intellectual ecosystem.

The MBA Program at The University of Texas at Dallas opened doors. I took a step back and asked myself, ‘what do I want to do with the rest of my career?’I kept coming back to the idea of doing what my dad did with his small accounting firm—helping small to mid-size companies accomplish their goals. To make this pivot from symphony operations into finance a reality, I needed to go to business school to obtain the skills and corporate connections necessary for success. I started with Bulkley as an intern during the MBA Program. Fast forward ten years, and I’m now the vice president doing exactly what I set out to do—helping businesses reach their goals. My career progression started with UT Dallas, and it has been a fantastic journey.
