The Owl Trophies for the 2023 JSOM OWLIE awards.

The ninth annual Outstanding Worthy Leaders Involved Exceptionally (OWLIE) awards ceremony held April 12 in the Davidson Auditorium was a smash success complete with music, magic and an owl mascot.

The OWLIEs enables members of the JSOM community to recognize and uplift their fellow students, staff, faculty, mentors and alumni for their outstanding service on behalf of the Naveen Jindal School of Management. This special awards ceremony has been hosted by the Jindal School’s Dean’s Council every year since its inception in 2015. Named in honor of Wise the Owl, the mirrored stainless steel owl that stands in JSOM’s courtyard and serves as the Jindal School’s unofficial mascot, the OWLIEs have become a beloved spring tradition. Two virtual ceremonies were held in 2020 and 2021 to accommodate for pandemic restrictions, but the event returned to an in-person gathering in 2022.

OWLIE award winners got to take home a shining Owl trophy to honor their hard work and dedication to the Jindal School.

Jindal Selfless Service

This award recognizes an undergraduate student, graduate student, or community leader in JSOM who has won hearts through their selfless acts of service to others and/or their community.

Nimish Sharma

Jindal Student Mentor

This award goes to a student who has demonstrated excellence in mentoring, encouraging and promoting the educational, professional, and personal development of other students.

Undergraduate: Sarah Gifford

JSOM student Sarah Gifford accepts the 2023 Owlie Award for Undergrad Student Mentor from Dean Hasan Pirkul. — Sarah Gifford is a senior BS in Business Administration student.

Graduate: Asmita Mohanta

JSOM Graduate Student Asmita Mohanta accepts 2023 Owlie Award for Student Mentor from Dean Hasan Pirkul. — Asmita Mohanta is a Master’s in Business Analytics student.

JSOM Most Likely to be a C-Suite Executive

This award recognizes a student who demonstrates the qualities of a C-Suite Executive including the capacity to lead others and the strong commitment to their own individual growth. This individual should possess intense drive, powerful determination and an excellent entrepreneurial mindset.

Undergraduate: Lily Parker

JSOM student Lily Parker accepts 2023 Owlie award for Most Likely to be a C-Suite Executive. — Lily Parker is a senior BS in Supply Chain Management student.

Graduate: Claire Rosenbluth

JSOM student Claire Rosenbluth accepts 2023 Owlie Award for most likely to become a C-Suite Executive from Dean Pirkul. — Claire Rosenbluth is a Full-Time MBA student.

Jindal Diversity, Equity, Belonging and Inclusion Engagement

This award was introduced in 2021 to honor either an undergraduate, graduate, staff, faculty or community leader who demonstrates passion, connects community or advocates for change toward diversity, equity and inclusion.

JSOM Amazing Alum

This award is presented to a JSOM alum who has distinguished herself/himself through excellence in supporting JSOM students.

Sameer Ranjan

Jindal Employer of the Year

This award goes to an employer that has posted positions in the Jindal School, hired students for both internships and final placement positions, and helped to support the professional development of students.

JSOM Student of the Year

Master’s: Haley Randell

JSOM Master's Student Haley Randell accepts 2023 Owlie for Student of the Year from Dean Pirkul. — Haley Randell is a Full-Time MBA student.

PhD: Ryan Teschner

JSOM PhD student Ryan Teschner accepts 2023 Owlie Award for Student of the Year from Dean Pirkul. — Ryan Teschner is a PhD student in International Management Studies.

Jindal Faculty of the Year

This award is presented to a JSOM faculty member for excellence in teaching, advising, mentoring, and/or supporting students.

Undergraduate: Victoria McCrady

Victoria McCrady accepts 2023 Owlie Award for Jindal Faculty of the year from Dean Hasan Pirkul. — Victoria McCrady is an assistant professor of instruction in Organizations, Strategy and International Management.

Master’s or Graduate: Zixuan “Maggie” Meng

Dr. Zixuan “Maggie” Meng accepts 2023 Owlie Award for Jindal Faculty of the Year from Dean Pirkul. — Zixuan “Maggie” Meng is an assistant professor of Information Systems.

PhD: Riki Takeuchi

Dr. Riki Takuchi accepts 2023 Owlie Award for Faculty of the Year from Dean Hasan Pirkul — Riki Takeuchi is a professor of Organizations, Strategy and International Management.

JSOM Outstanding Staff Member

This award is presented to a JSOM staff member who has distinguished herself/himself through excellence in supporting JSOM students, faculty and important constituents.

This award is presented to an active member of the Dean’s Council in the Jindal School providing leadership and support for all the activities of the council.

This award recognizes a student leader of a registered JSOM organization who has demonstrated a high level of leadership ability through character, work ethic and involvement.

This award recognizes the JSOM student organization that has made a significant contribution to the school and student body through service, programs, and activities.

Undergraduate: Financial Leadership Association (FLA)
