The Naveen Jindal School of Management Career Management Center (CMC) unites outstanding future business leaders with a diverse variety of companies in every business industry, sector throughout DFW and beyond. The CMC has a committed and enduring relationship with the DFW business community, home to 24 Fortune 500 companies and produces one-third of all goods and services in Texas. Unknown to many, Dallas Fort-Worth has the 14th largest metropolitan economy in the world and has been called a “World Capital of the Future.”

The Career Management Center is located just outside the east bank elevators on the second floor of the Jindal School of Management. Our staff is committed to being responsive and helpful, and we are eager to help you find your career path as a student or help your company grow and thrive by hiring our students. The Jindal School of Management is large enough to offer many attractive degree plans but small enough to serve each constituent with the highest level of service and satisfaction. At the Jindal School, discovering your career begins the first day you step foot on the campus. As an undergraduate student, the CMC will help you build your career management portfolio including perfecting your elevator pitch, building an impressive resume and acquiring those skills that will help you use your strengths and follow your passion.

  • The CMC encourages all undergraduate students to understand what their career path looks like for each academic major: Accounting, Business Administration, Finance, Global Business, Information Systems and Marketing

  • Explore your undergraduate career management development track to fully understand the workshop milestones that will help you achieve your career goals. Workshops are available to all undergraduate students by major. If you are currently undecided you can attend any session. To move through the career education curriculum for your major, you are advised to start the process early. You can never attend too many sessions and students often repeat sessions to insure they have mastered that particular topic.

  • Join student organizations to develop and enhance their career seeking skills.

  • Visit the Comet Calendar on the Jindal School of Management Home Page to see opportunities for networking at school and university events.

  • Establish a CareerWorks account to access UT Dallas internship and full-time job postings. Once you have created an account you can create a profile and upload resumes and cover letters to apply for specific positions.

Undergraduate Career Planning Timeline

Freshman Year

  • Attend career fairs.
  • Explore interests, abilities and skills.
  • Work through career planning software.
  • Attend seminars.
  • Explore work options for the summer.
  • Schedule individual sessions with a career counselor.
  • Discuss interests with others.

Sophomore Year

  • Attend career fairs.
  • Research previously identified choices.
  • Seek co–op or internship.
  • Attend seminars.
  • Explore work options for the summer.
  • Participate in extracurricular activities.
  • Begin to build your professional network.

Junior Year

  • Attend career fairs.
  • Consider work force or school options that improve your skills.
  • Update resume.
  • Attend seminars.
  • Participate in mock interview training.
  • Utilize resources for job search.
  • Explore work options for the summer: consider internship or co–op work experience.
  • Participate in extracurricular activities/student organizations.
  • Continue to build your professional network.
  • Publish resume.

Senior Year

  • Attend career fairs and other job fairs.
  • Expand list of prospective employers.
  • Monitor job listings regularly.
  • Attend seminars.
  • Update resume. (You may need more than one version.)
  • Participate in mock interview training.
  • Schedule interviews on and off campus.
  • Evaluate offers.
  • Report offers and acceptances to the school’s Career Management Center.
  • Network! Network! Network!

Workshops are available to all graduate students by background or program. You can never attend too many sessions and students often repeat sessions to insure they have mastered that particular topic. Graduate Career Planning Timeline

First Half of Your Degree Program

  • Visit the School of Management’s Career Management Center (CMC) and UT Dallas’ Career Center in person, or visit the web sites and become familiar with the schedule of workshops and seminars; four areas warrant special attention: 
    • Develop a strategic resume.
    • Learn behavioral interview skills and techniques. 
    • Develop job search skills and techniques.
    • Develop social/business networking skills.
  • Update your resume. (You may need more than one version.)
  • Register with the online UT Dallas Recruiting System, UT Dallas CareerWorks. If you are seeking a job change by graduation, be sure to upload your resume.
  • Attend campus career fairs, company information sessions and networking events.
  • Participate in at least one student organization, a professional organization in your field or one of the school’s research centers.
  • Expand your network; increase your list of contacts and expand your relationships.
  • Critical: Develop your career focus 
    • Identify your job target.
    • Participate in career counseling, if necessary.

Second Half of Your Degree Program

  • Create or update your UT Dallas CareerWorks web account.
  • Start a targeted job search (handouts in the CMC).
  • Participate in interview training: Do mock interviews and know the requirements for various interview styles and your “target” company norms.
  • Attend professional organization meetings related to your focus area.
  • Expand your list of prospective “target” employers. 
  • Improve/update your resume(s) and format a powerful cover letter(s).
  • Network! Network! Network!
  • Monitor the UT Dallas web job listings regularly; attend career fairs and other job fairs.
  • Schedule interviews on and off campus.
  • Evaluate offers; report offers and acceptances to the school’s Career Management Center.

The internship or job hunt process begins with understanding the career development process.

  • International students are encouraged to review the information regarding internships/employment in the U.S.

  • All students should take advantage of the resources both here in the school and in the UT Dallas Career Center.

  • Finally, in today’s technology driven world, students who do not explore ways to use social media to secure a job are missing out on a viable resource.
