The Jindal School-based Society for Human Resource Management at UT Dallas earned a Student Chapter Superior Merit Award from the national SHRM organization for its outstanding 2015-2016 programs and activities.

SHRM is an international association whose student arm offers regional student conferences and helps students pursue HR certification exams. Membership in the UT Dallas chapter, which formed in fall 2013, is open to any UT Dallas student.

The merit award program recognizes achievement in four areas:

  • chapter operations
  • chapter programming and professional development of members
  • support of the human resource profession
  • SHRM engagement.

Award criteria obliged the chapter to fulfill all chapter-in-good standing requirements, including having a chapter advisor who is a SHRM member. Dr. Jeff Weekley and Ed Meda, JSOM faculty members who teach organizational behavior and human resource courses, serve as advisors to the UT Dallas group.

The chapter also earned points toward the award by supporting the professional development of its members with speakers and other learning opportunities, networking with local human resources professionals and other student chapters, sponsoring fundraisers and more.

With a mission is to help all members develop into human resource management professionals equipped for a successful career in the human resources field, the chapter opens its 2016-2017 calendar its first general meeting on Sept. 20at 7 p.m. in JSOM 2.106.
