Ambassador Sripriya Ranganathan Visits UT Dallas Campus

Who is Ambassador Sripriya Ranganathan?

Sripriya Ranganathan currently serves as the Deputy Chief of Mission for the Embassy of India, which is the diplomatic mission of the Republic of India to the United States.

Ambassador Ranganathan began her career in diplomacy in 1994. Directly before her move to the United States, she was the Ambassador of India to the Republic of Korea for four years.

This past December 1st, Ambassador Ranganathan visited the UT Dallas campus to discuss the relationship between the Indian and US college systems and how we can continue to build young leaders who think from an international perspective.

Also in attendance at the talk were Consul General of Indian in Houston, Aseem Mahajan, UT Dallas Provost, Inga Musselman, UT Dallas Dean, Hasan Pirkul, and leadership from the US India Chamber of Commerce DFW including Sunil Maini and Ashok Mago.

With an audience of about 75 staff, faculty, and students of UT Dallas, Ambassador Ranganathan started a discussion about the changes they are bringing to the current educational system to help further US and Indian connections.

Building a Bright Future for Students

Topics of discussion included government plans to assist students in studying aboard, such as easier transfer of credits between international institutions, programs to encourage colleges across the US and India to start semester exchange programs, expanding scholarships for students, and ways to address visa issues for students traveling internationally.

Ambassador Ranganathan expressed a strong interest in encouraging young entrepreneurs, especially women. According to Ambassador Ranganathan, institutions like UT Dallas can act as pioneers in forging global connections.

The event ended with a question-and-answer session with Ambassador Ranganathan. The JSOM community was proud to host this talk on the connections between India and the US in higher education.
