The JYSP Scholarship for UT Dallas

JYSP students who fully participate in JYSP programming while in high school and who meet established academic criteria and gain admission to The University of Texas at Dallas have the opportunity to compete for a JYSP Scholarship.

The Jindal Young Scholars Program scholarship is an annual award for up to four years (eight long semesters) to the Naveen Jindal School of Management at The University of Texas at Dallas. The scholarship will cover any remaining unmet financial need after federal, state and institutional financial assistance is applied.

As of the 2021-2022 school year, 22 students who graduated from Dallas ISD high schools have been awarded the JYSP Scholarship. Of those 22 students, 5 have graduated from UTD’s Jindal School of Management.

Eligibility

In order to be eligible for the JYSP scholarship, a Jindal Young Scholar must meet this criteria:

  • Attend one of these participating Dallas ISD high schools:
    • Moisés E. Molina High School
    • Molina High School Collegiate Academy (B-TECH)
    • Franklin D. Roosevelt High School
    • Roosevelt High School Collegiate Academy (H-TECH)
    • H. Grady Spruce High School
    • H. Grady Spruce Early College High School
    • W.T. White High School
    • W.T. White High School Collegiate Academy (B-TECH)
    • School of Business and Management at Yvonne A. Ewell Townview Center.
  • Participate in JYSP programming as a Jindal Young Scholar in high school.
  • Maintain a high GPA (weighted or non-weighted) in high school.
  • Participate in all applicable SAT and ACT test preparation and achieve the highest ACT and SAT scores possible.
  • Complete financial aid applications (FAFSA or TASFA) by Dec. 1 of the student’s high school graduating year. In addition, students must comply with any requests made by the UT Dallas Financial Aid Office, including requests for verification forms and supporting documents.
  • Complete UT Dallas Naveen Jindal School of Management application requirements for entrance by Dec. 1 of the student’s high school graduating year.
  • Pay all applicable fees in accordance with admission and enrollment guidelines.
  • Provide two letters of recommendation from high school teachers and/or guidance counselors by Dec. 1 of the high school student’s graduating year.
  • Submit an essay (about 750 words) by Dec. 1 of the student’s high school graduating year that explains servant leadership as an effective management tool and how the student has served others in his/her life.

Retaining the JYSP Scholarship

In order to retain a JYSP Scholarship, a recipient must:

  • Attend a Freshman Orientation session.
  • Live on campus while enrolled in the Jindal School at UT Dallas.
  • Maintain full-time enrollment status (15 credit hours per semester) and obtain advanced permission before making any changes in full-time enrollment status, including withdrawal or transfer.
  • Maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0 and maintain a minimum GPA of 2.0 each semester.
  • Adhere to the UT Dallas Student Code of Conduct.
  • Participate in regular check-in meetings with the JYSP program director.
  • Meet all requirements outlined in the campus Undergraduate Success Scholars program.
  • Volunteer in JYSP programming, including mentoring and UT Dallas campus visits by JSYP students still in high school.
