Startup Launch – MS in Innovation & Entrepreneurship

JSOM students innovating together

Learn and launch your business at the same time.

Startup Launch courses are available to students enrolled in any degree program at UT Dallas. Instructor permission is required to enroll. Students in the courses that have scalable business concepts are encouraged to apply for funding to support the validation and development of their business concept.

How Startup Launch Works

The MSIE Startup Launch Track offers an exciting and unique opportunity for a select group of entrepreneurs to launch their new business ventures within the framework of UT Dallas’ highly regarded Master of Science in Innovation and Entrepreneurship (MSIE) degree program.

Students or student teams admitted to Startup Launch will be provided with office and/or laboratory space in the Venture Development Center and ongoing support and mentoring by UT Dallas faculty and experienced entrepreneurs, while they earn the MSIE degree and receive course credit for progress toward the launch of their startup. Students will be expected to complete the program in 16-24 months (full-time or part-time) and to launch their businesses either while enrolled in the program or within six months after graduation.

Application to the program is competitive and, in addition to admission to the MSIE degree program, will require a business concept proposal, faculty interviews and the expression of a strong commitment to launch the venture.

The Master’s in Innovation and Entrepreneurship is more than an education in how to start a business. The program’s excellent professors bring a wealth of experience and a vast network to give you real-world insight that you can’t find in a textbook. Not only has the MSIE program given me the necessary technical skills to start a business, but it has also introduced me to experienced professionals who have shared decades’ worth of lessons learned.

The Professional MBA at UT Dallas provided the flexibility for a tailor-made education with subjects I am most passionate about. The MS in Innovation and Entrepreneurship curriculum enhanced my MBA through practical undertakings in both startup and corporate intrapreneurship settings. The cohort program was a differentiator, enabling the collaborative, in-person experience I was looking for.

I enrolled in the Master of Science degree program in Innovation & Entrepreneurship right after leaving Xerox Corporation in late 2017. I found the UT Dallas courses extremely interesting, and JSOM has assembled a great team of instructors that bring both academic and real-world credentials and experiences.
