The Chi Psi Chapter of the coed professional business fraternity Delta Sigma Pi has received three awards from the national organization.

The chapter, which was established at the Naveen Jindal School of Management in 2018, received the Chapter of Excellence Award and the Outstanding Alumni Relations Award for a College Chapter, presented to the collegiate chapter that most thoroughly integrates an aspect of alumni relations into overall operations.

Dr. Sarah Moore, an associate professor of instruction in the Business Communication Program at the Jindal School, received the regional Chapter Advisor of the Year Award, presented annually to one chapter advisor who has excelled in service to the chapter and the fraternity as a whole. Advisors are evaluated on their professional accomplishments and contributions to chapter recruiting, service, scholarship, academics and campus relations.

The awards were presented during Delta Sigma Pi’s 2023 Grand Chapter Congress.

Moore, who is also director of the Business Communication Center and Program at JSOM, said she felt honored to win Chapter Advisor of the Year for the region. She credited past Chi Psi president Mashal Iqbal for the hard work that made last year a success

“As an undergraduate, student group leadership was a huge part of my education,” Moore said. “I learned a lot in the classroom, and I learned even more working with faculty and administrators who mentored me as a student group leader. I hope I can give back to honor those people.”

Moore noted that student groups like Delta Sigma Pi benefit from alumni guest speakers and panelists, and she encouraged alumni to find ways to give back.

“The chapter awards were made possible by our previous executive committee and our amazing and dedicated alumni network,” said Jia Yee Pua, chapter president and an accounting senior. “I would specifically like to credit our previous president, Mashal Iqbal, and our previous vice president of Alumni Relations, Hadeeqa Raza. Both worked tirelessly to put on events for our brothers that allowed our chapter to grow socially and professionally.”

Although Delta Sigma Pi is a coed student organization, its tradition is to call all members brothers. Building strong relationships with alumni has been a focus of the chapter. Alumni are asked to participate in special events and to serve as mentors.

“Our alumni are one of our greatest assets,” said Pua. “Many of our brothers have gone on to work in lucrative industries in prestigious companies, and they are always willing to give back and help us grow at the collegiate level”

Chapter senior vice president, Arjun Gundewar, a business analytics junior, said receiving the awards is gratifying and exciting to him. He hopes the awards will help the chapter with getting funding to attend national leadership conferences in 2024.

Some of the work done with alumni, Gundewar said, is inviting them to participate in panels for special events. They also have a Founders Day observance Nov. 12.

“We have (more than 45) members and just finished our recruitment for the fall semester,” he said. “Our members make up a brotherhood where we give love and support to each other.”
