Jindal School junior Jasmine Nguyen earned the Collegiate Marketer of the Year Award from the Dallas-Fort Worth chapter of the American Marketing Association at its annual gala, held virtually Oct. 7.

A double major in marketing and global business, Nguyen won for work she did on the PLG Cares 4th Annual Charity Golf Tournament while an intern at the Patel Law Group in Irving, Texas.

The undergraduate program in marketing also won an AMA DFW award for corporate social responsibility students and faculty showed in assisting nonprofits in 2020 class-based projects during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. And the Jindal School external relations and development teams picked up the Event Marketing Award for their 2020 work on the school’s major annual fundraiser, Scholarship Breakfast.

Describing herself as “beyond happy,” Nguyen said in an acceptance video (her remarks begin at 30:58) that the award “lets me know that my discipline, my creativity and my motivation” were appreciated. Nguyen thanked BS in Marketing Program Director Julie Haworth and Marketing Area Coordinator Ying Xie for encouraging her to apply for the award.

“Jasmine is an incredible student who takes advantage of every career opportunity she can to learn and contribute to her community and knowledge base,” Haworth said after the gala.

PLG Cares and the golf tournament are offshoots of the law firm that have a mission to “give back to the community we work, play and live in.” Together with Kidd’s Kids, an Irving-based nonprofit that aids children, and chief sponsor Ananta Energy Source, an energy brokerage, the tournament had the goal of raising money to send children with life-altering or life-threatening conditions and their families to Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida.

With the support and under the supervision of PLG Marketing Director David Cotty, Nguyen devised marketing strategies, including social media posts, digital media assets, audio scripting, copywriting, and script animating. Her work resulted in more website visits, event registrations and social media engagements for the tournament, which secured more than $120,000 in pledges.

A recipient this fall of a scholarship from the American Advertising Federation, Nguyen currently is a digital media intern at the RBA agency in Dallas, AT JSOM, she is a member of the Marketing Leadership Council and Professional Program in Marketing and was recently accepted as a mentor in PPM’s mentoring program. She has taken part in WPP Next Gen Leaders 2021, a 10-week online curriculum offered through British -based WPP, a multinational communications, advertising and public relation company.

Nguyen is the eighth Jindal School student to have won the Collegiate Marketer of the Year Award since 2012. Past JSOM winners have been:

  • 2012: Joshua Joseph
  • 2014: Ganapath (Ramu) Velu

  • 2016: Kathryn McCord
  • 2017: Jessica Munoz Fonseca
