With a little over 5 years of SAP experience in multinational companies, when I started planning on masters’ I wanted to leverage my previous experience and expand my expertise in the field of ERP. The University of Texas at Dallas amongst one of the top ranked university in US and SAP alliance listed university, enrolling into the MS ITM track was an easy decision.

The MS ITM program has been an enriching experience and has always churned out new surprises. With a huge alumni base and a great career management center, we were exposed to large set of employers and network-boosting opportunities. The flexibility offered by the program in terms of the choice between specialization tracks, along with the option of waiving off subjects and choosing electives. I chose a mix of ERP and Analytics which helped me gain exposure to different technical tools and its business case implementation. Furthermore, I achieved Business Process Associate (TERP10) which added a feather to my existing skills.

The skills learned helped me secure an internship at Visual BI solutions as a Business Intelligence consultant and gain international industry level exposure.

Additionally, there are over 300 registered student organizations in categories like academics, arts and music, club sports, cultural which provide great career networking opportunities. Serving as student organization officer and then as vice-president, my collaboration with SAP Users’ Group has been the most rewarding one. I got a chance to volunteer at national level conferences and opportunity to meet industry level experts. Most importantly, I would like to thank our faculty advisor Prof. Lou Thompson who has been a great mentor to me. Working with him made me grow as a person and inspired me to contribute to the organization selflessly.

Finally, I would like to thank all the professors and fellow students for helping me achieve my goals of pursuing masters and working as Business Intelligence Consultant at Fortune One company which has one of the most complicated ERP system.

It gives me great pleasure to share my success story as a UT Dallas MS ITM program alumni, graduated in fall 2016. I can say that MS-ITM program has provided lot of things to grow both personally and professionally. The program’s great blend of technical and business skills is very important to manage an organization’s IT resources. Jindal School of Management always stays on top of industry trends and gives students access to industry-level tools.

I took courses from Enterprise Systems and Business Intelligence Tracks. My current job requires knowledge and experience in the areas of Business process Integration, and data analytics—all skills I gained at the Jindal School.

Since I don’t have any prior experience in SAP but I was interested to build skills in SAP domain, SAP User’s Group was a great platform to me where I could interact with lot of industry professionals. Through SUG, I came to know about SAP TERP 10 Certification. I have completed the Certification in May 2015 and now I am an SAP Certified Associate. Prof. Thompson is a great Faculty advisor and I had the opportunity to work as a Teaching Assistant under him.

Finally, I am very thankful and would definitely recommend MS ITM program to all students in order to achieve their long term career goals.

I joined MS ITM program in Fall 2016. In my first semester itself, while selecting courses, I had chosen MIS6319 – Enterprise Resource Planning. Till date, I firmly believe it is one of my best decisions. Though I always had interest in ERP, I did not have any industry background in it. Also, I did not know anything about SAP ERP. All the courses I studied in MS ITM helped me not only to enhance my knowledge but also during my search for internships. But that one course – MIS6319 changed my life for better. I got my first internship in a company that had SAP ERP. During interview, I mentioned about all the assignments (mini real industry scenarios) that I had performed. For someone who had never worked on SAP ERP, to know the concepts and Transaction codes so well, the employers were very impressed. I got the internship. I later pursued TERP 10 certification as I believe the esteemed SAP certification not only adds to knowledge, but that SAP certified badge is an honor. My resume looks even more beautiful as I get to add the SAP certified logo. My other courses at JSOM also involved SAP technologies and practices like SAP S/4 HANA, BO Reporting. I am also a proud member of SAP Users Group (SUG). I have never missed a single meet-up/conference while I was in Dallas. Every conference helped me to understand how SAP ERP works in other companies through their leaders’ stories. In past 2 years I improved my SAP ERP skills and eventually got a full-time job in the same field. I would like to extend my sincere gratitude towards all the Professors at MS ITM program for their constant support and guidance. And especially to Professor Lou Thompson for designing Enterprise Systems curriculum so awesome that even a novice like me could learn and excel at it.

I had enrolled in ERP and SAP classes back in my undergraduate studies as electives to fill my degree plan, not knowing that these classes will lead me into an amazing career path. The professors laid the foundation of ERP concepts and SAP basics for me, and I continued to build upon it as I work with the SAP system. The SAP TERP10 certification course was an intense, but eye-opening, experience, and this certification provided creditability to my SAP skills during my job search. I would recommend this career path to anyone who loves problem-solving, who is driven to create new processes and solutions, and who desires to learn all the time. All major ERP systems, especially SAP, will always evolve, and experts in these systems will always be needed.

I currently work as a Business Analyst for the SAP Team at a major aerospace corporation. I completed my TERP10 certification in 2011 during my undergraduate studies.

I am an SAP SCM/TM Consultant working in the San Francisco Bay Area. I did my graduate studies in Information Technology & Management, Class of 2017. I did my undergrad in Electronics and Communications Engineering in India and worked as SAP Basis Consultant for three years. I had always wanted to leverage my career and diversify my knowledge. I found the Information Systems coursework at JSOM attractive and stood apart from other schools. ITM provided ample opportunities to build on my experience – I specialized in the Enterprise Systems track. The coursework is designed in a way to help students pursue certifications and I had the opportunity to complete a certification in Business Process in ERP(TERP10) through the school. I was accepted to other colleges but I chose the Jindal School without any second thoughts.

I was an Officer in the SAP Users Group and had attended numerous SAP conferences which provided immense opportunities to network with industry professionals and to know their experiences. I worked as a Graduate Teaching Assistant for “Enterprise Resource Planning” and “IT for Business” where I taught both grad and undergrad students. The opportunities available in JSOM are immense and it is in our hands to make use of them. When I turn back now to look at the decision I made to join UT Dallas, I have no regrets and I cherish the diverse experiences I have had here.

Chao Li

Chao Li

Chao Li is a UT Dallas ITM program alumni graduated on December 2014. After graduation with her ITM master degree, she worked for PwC New York office – SAP enterprise solution team for almost 3 years. Now Chao is a Senior IT Auditor in an international famous air conditioner and heat craft manufacturing company. Here is her story:

Back to 2012, Chao decided to pursuit her post graduate degree in ITM after 2 years Oracle ERP system consulting experience in China. At that time, she did research and applied several universities in US. But she chose UT Dallas and mentioned the following reasons:

  1. There are around 2000 SAP Alliance universities around the world, however, UT Dallas owns the program under a very great reputation business school – Naveen Jindal School of Management (JSOM). So students no matter in which major can share all the most competent professor, academic and research resources in this excellent business school. For example, Chao deeply noted that, nowadays, graduates with a combined IT and business knowledge background are the most popular candidates for any big companies.
  2. Since UT Dallas ITM major is directly guided by SAP Alliance program, the education provided here is more practical, specific and job oriented. Students can choose classes related to their interested modules in SAP, for example, FICO, SCM or Security modules. All the case studies and home works are directly need to complete by using the SAP sandbox which run through a database supported by SAP directly and all the cases are from real business environment.
  3. In UT Dallas, each of these directions under ITM programs has its own clubs, students can attend these clubs based on their own interests. If you can actively attend and join the club events and volunteer works, it will be a great opportunity to get leadership and team work skills which are really important in work environment.
Chao became a member of SAP users group club in her first semester and she actively join the club events, for example, volunteering in the playground events* and helping organize and contribute to the guest speakers’ events.
  4. Every single professors and staffs in JSOM are devoting their career life to better help and serve students. As an ITM program – Enterprise system direction alumni, Chao was so grateful when she talked about all these professors and staffs in JSOM who helped her find the program direction and career path.

TThe MS ITM Program at JSOM has been nothing but a rich, transformative experience for my career and life. The Enterprise Systems track that I chose is versatile and highly structured with multiple tracks within SAP ERP and offers a perfect combination of advanced curriculum and in-depth application of learning. Looking back, it was one of the best decisions of my life, since it gave me a very strong foundation for my current job as an SAP consultant in logistics space, as well as offered me a valuable international exposure in a world-class, multi-cultural, vibrant and intellectually stimulating classroom environment, with students across all experience levels, and with faculty that were deeply invested in individual success and that provided me tools to continuously learn and succeed. I earned the Graduate Certificate in Enterprise Management Systems, SAS Institute/UT Dallas Graduate Certificate In Data Mining And Business Intelligence, as well as UT Dallas Student Information Security Awareness Certificate having completed courses in the subjects, that have all allowed me to comfortably transition into highly integrated, application-based client projects outside the university. I also opted for the coveted SAP Certification for Integration of Business Systems, that UT Dallas facilitates with SAP University Alliances, which spans the whole spectrum of SAP Enterprise Planning architecture and offers ERP students a distinction on their resumes. Prof. Thompson took utmost efforts to prepare the students for this rigorous and challenging certification examination, closely working with each one of us. I was awarded SAP Student Recognition Award having taken the course and elated to have earned it with hard work, but not without the expert guidance of Prof. Thompson. The program also facilitates active participation in SAP Users’ Group and Association of IT Professionals (AITP) that are great channels for grooming students to become contributing individuals to the professional communities in the corporate world. Prof. Thouin is a very encouraging mentor and taught us great leadership skills, and gave me a wonderful opportunity to serve on the AITP. I cannot recommend this program enough to any aspiring student who aims to make IT and management his or her career path, and who has a vision to join the upper echelons of the business world and become a distinguished contributor to the society.

It is with a great pleasure that I write this testimony about the Enterprise Systems program at UT Dallas. I have graduated with a master’s degree in ITM in the year 2015. I did my major core courses from the Enterprise systems track such as the MIS6319 (Enterprise Resource Planning), MIS 6332 (Advanced ERP: Configurations) etc… to name a few. The enterprise courses offered at UT Dallas have helped me to gain the functional and technical expertise in ERP and SAP. Thanks to Professor Lou Thompson, under whom I worked as a Teaching assistant for two semesters, has directed me to gain my SAP TERP 10 certification. The certification is helpful for the new students who are looking for a career in SAP.

Apart from the course work, the SAP Users group student organization has helped me to meet Industry experts who work in the SAP domain. I am also proud to say that I worked as the President for the organization. The group’s activities such as the Information sessions and the playground sessions are a great way for students to gain hands on training in SAP and a way to network with professionals. On a final note, I would like to thank all the professors and advisors for putting a great effort in designing the courses and framework for the Enterprise track.

It all started as a volunteer for SAP User’s Group (SUG),then becoming a part of its Set Up and Tear Down committee and finally leading up to its Presidency, as well as a Teaching Assistant for ERP and Advanced ERP courses. I quickly realized at the very moment that the decision to choose UT Dallas for my graduate studies was rewarding. I believe Jindal School of management has constantly been uncompromisingly running towards the mission of refining learners through enterprise systems and SAP related courses and opening doors to a career in the SAP domain with great options like SAP TERP10 certification and SAP Graduate Certificate to name a few. Having acquired both of the certificates myself, I got immense help from school to further my career by having opportunities to network with professionals, faculty and other students interested in SAP and enterprise systems.

Lastly, I would like to thank our faculty advisor Prof. Lou Thompson at UT Dallas. He has been an integral part of my success imparting great experience and learning by offering me TA position for ERP courses. I would not have come this far without his contribution and guidance. He has always been a great mentor to me. Working with him made me grow as a person and inspired me to contribute to the IT profession selflessly.

I joined UT Dallas during Fall 2016. It all started back in India when I was working at Accenture as an SAP Consultant for 2+ years. I was looking for an opportunity to expand my skills in SAP and also global acumen. I got to know about UT Dallas Enterprise Systems curriculum from a UT Dallas Alumni and also my Accenture Co-worker. I was really impressed with the course structure of MS ITM especially Enterprise Systems track. All the courses offered in Enterprise Systems track really impressed me and made to take next step towards getting my admission. I was really fortunate to get the admit from UT Dallas.

As soon as I started my Master’s program, I enrolled myself at SAP Users Group during Fall 2016. I started attending all Information and Networking sessions. This made me know how to start networking in order to grab internship and full- time opportunities in SAP. I enrolled myself in ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) class during fall 2016. ERP course made me understand end to end business processes in SAP ERP. My work experience at Accenture is mostly focused on SAP Utilities and SAP ABAP. Through ERP course, I was able to expand my skills in ERP space. With your guidance and motivation, I also enrolled myself in SAP Supply Chain Software and Accounting Systems Integration and Configuration courses during Spring 2018. These courses also added value to my profile to a greater extent. With your constant guidance, I was able to finish my SAP Certification (TERP – 10) during summer 2017. This was a major kickstart in my professional and academic experience. I started looking for internship opportunities in SAP. Fortunately I got a Co-Op opportunity from ThermoFisher Scientific, San Diego CA. I was selected to work as an Enterprise Application Services Intern. Also, I got one more Internship offer from ERP Logic, Dallas. My interview experience with ERP Logic was really challenging and amazing. It was totally different from any other interviews that I experienced. After passing through several rounds of the interview I was able to grab an Internship opportunity at ERP Logic, Dallas as an SAP Cloud Solutions Consultant Intern for Summer 2017. It was a tough call for me to decide between ThermoFisher Scientific and ERP Logic. But my passion and interest in SAP made me accept the offer from ERP Logic. This was one of the best decision I ever made in my career.

My first day at ERP Logic was really amazing. I just completed my SAP Certification the day before I joined ERP Logic. I informed my CEO, Vice President and Director about my certification. They were really impressed. My SAP Certification made them  give an opportunity to work in an SAP Cloud Solutions Implementation project from day one. I was really excited about this since I got attention from the top level execs in a short span of time. Also, they agreed to extend my internship for the next semesters. After few months, I travelled to California for almost a month and led a Go Live implementation of the project that I started working on. I am really satisfied with the work that I am doing at ERP Logic. I am constantly expanding my skillset. Recently I also moved into SAP S/4HANA practice at ERP Logic. Professor, I can clearly see where my career progresses and also with your constant guidance, support and motivation, I am sure I can climb the ladders in SAP Technology quickly.

Being part of the Dean’s Council and Toastmasters helped me build my leadership and public speaking skills, which greatly helped me in getting a career at Deloitte.

Giving back to JSOM has been a big focus in my life. With the support of both Deloitte and the SAP users group I was able to host, coordinate, and facilitate multiple info sessions focused on some of the latest innovations in SAP’s analytics , ERP and cloud offerings. Also being part of the International Christian Fellowship more particularly the Indian program called the UT Dallas Tea room is another thing that I continue to be part of, where we serve Indian Chai and snacks to International students on Tuesdays in the comet café. In conclusion I believe that this graduate program has greatly shaped me not only in my professional career but also helped me become a better person.

The MS ITM program at UT Dallas has been a life-changing experience. As a Chemical Engineer with about 3 years of experience as an SAP Technical Consultant, UT Dallas’s Enterprise Systems track was the perfect fit for me. As a part of the SAP University Alliance, the courses of the Enterprise Systems track are designed to help students accumulate valuable technical skills currently in demand in the industry.

As the newsletter editor of SAP Users’ Group and the president of The Consulting Club, I got an opportunity to meet and learn from numerous industry experts and leaders. This not only helped me build a strong professional network but also provided me with a platform to hone my corporate skills.

I got an opportunity to work as an intern with Lam Research Corporation as a Data Analytics Developer working on latest SAP Technologies from Summer through Spring. I was also one of the four students chosen to represent UT Dallas at The SAP Co-innovation Event hosted by Deloitte Consulting. But the biggest achievement of all for me has been the foundation that UT Dallas provided me with to land my dream job at Deloitte Consulting starting in Summer ‘18 in their SAP Practice. I would not have been able to achieve this without the excellent UT Dallas curriculum and faculty members. I would especially like to thank Professor Lou Thompson for his constant guidance and support.

Finally, I would like to say that obtaining a formal Master’s degree in ITM from UT Dallas with a concentration in Enterprise Systems has helped me way beyond the classroom. I am extremely thankful to the entire staff and faculty of UT Dallas for designing such a wonderful program.

I graduated from the UTD ITM program in December 2012. The program provided me with a strong basis for my future professional career in SAP consulting. Its specific track focus gave me the opportunity to clarify my future career path and deepen my knowledge in the area that I would like to pursue. The SAP related courses and the SAP TERP10 certification allowed me to look into various SAP modules and open a door for my path of SAP consulting. Furthermore, the flexibility of the course arrangement helped me to work on various internships throughout the master’s degree. The leadership experience as a graduate teaching assistant and leadership within the SAP User’s Group gave me various opportunities to enhance my soft skills.

The UTD ITM program has various communities and events which are a great opportunity to network with people within and outside the university. For example, I participated in the “strategic use of IT” case competition (SUIT) which was hosted by the AITP community. I joined with two other team members and – well prepared by the ITM program – we won the first place and participated in the SUIT national case competition. This is just an example of the great experience to exchange knowledge with students across the nation which was fostered by the program.

I am thankful to the program and the professors for my personal development and can only recommend anyone to participate in the UTD ITM program.

I’ll never stop being grateful to Jindal School Of Management for bringing me into a community that fostered my personal, academic and professional growth.

During my time as a Information Technology and Management graduate student, I have proudly witnessed taking Enterprise Resource Planning Track. I chose ERP and Advanced ERP courses because it offers the best experience with a complete curriculum and an extraordinary faculty.

Once enrolled in the ERP Track provided me with an excellent opportunity to refine my diverse business and technical skills. My classmates were extremely talented who bring experiences from different cultures, countries and industries. Classroom and study group sessions stimulate in-depth discussions of real-world applications. I later sought for TERP10 which provide a practical foundation of working with different ERP Modules and solving real problems from real clients.

SAP Users Group hosts conferences and session with leaders from SAP America briefing members about latest technology advancements. Professor Lou and members of the organization offer practical training sessions which caters to various experience levels and strengths. Everyone’s voice is heard.

My master’s degree from the University of Texas at Dallas gave me a good exposure to multiple business areas. The course structure in the Information Technology and Management major in JSOM is well organized with focus on Enterprise Resource Planning, Business Intelligence, Big Data Analytics and Project management tracks.

I was very comfortable learning technical skills by taking courses related to the Enterprise Resource Planning, Business Intelligence tracks and managerial skills by taking courses related to project management. The program is structured in a proper way where every student learn in a diversified community, share knowledge and network with various industrial professionals.

I would like to thank Prof. Lou Thompson for all his support during my tenure at UTD. I volunteered for SAP Users Group (SUG) in my first semester which gave me a good opportunity to network with many people, then landed as SOC (Student Organization Center) officer representing SUG in my upcoming semesters. Having no prior experience in SAP, with the help of Prof Thompson and being a member of SUG, I completed my SAP TERP 10 Certification successfully.

I am thankful to Prof Thompson for sharing my profile with my current company in a networking session at the ASUG (American SAP Users Group) Conference, that helped me to get an internship which in turn is converted to a full-time opportunity.

Choosing UTD and graduating with a master’s degree in Information Technology and Management has been one of my best decisions till date. Organizations depend on computerized information for almost every aspect of their business and entering this field has assisted me in learning to design computer systems to help people and organizations function more effectively.  I am very grateful to have come through such a quality school, with teachers who genuinely care about you, and dedicate their lives to giving you the tools you need to succeed. Taking courses concentrating on Data Warehousing, Enterprise Resource Planning and ERP Configurations has definitely helped in laying my foundation strong in the world of Data and Business Systems.

Special thanks to Professor Lou Thompson, under whom I worked as a Teaching Assistant in SAP ERP for helping me expand my knowledge and leverage it for my career. JSOM is a place where there are number of opportunities without any bias. Being part of university organizations such as SAP users group (SUG) helped me in connecting with people, industry and also the latest technologies in the market.

Looking back on the last two years, the best advice I could give students is to start early, don’t be afraid to fail, and don’t be afraid to ask for help. In writing this, it is ever more apparent to me that the journey is not over; graduation is not the end, it is only the end of the beginning.”

While approaching my Bachelor of Science in Accounting graduation in 2012, I knew that I wanted to pursue my higher education at the University of Texas at Dallas (UTD). I feel so blessed that UTD incorporated a competitive edge by offering information systems certifications that could be catered to any potential business setting. With the help and guidance of both JSOM faculty (Dr. Thompson, Dr. Goodrich and Dr. Bardhan to name a few) and my advisors, I was able use the certification classes as electives for my dual MS/MBA in Accounting. While still new in the master’s program, I ended up moving to Houston. Given my circumstances, the JSOM graduate advisors couldn’t have made my transition into the online MS/MBA program any smoother and that included completion of my enterprise structure certification. Although some of the classes in the certification required a face-to-face course, most were accommodated in an online classroom setting, great for a busy graduate with a professional career or a proud stay at home mother of 2 toddler boys like myself. Upon my final year before graduation, I drove weekly to UTD from Houston in order to complete my certifications in both Healthcare IT and the SAP TERP10. An added bonus was the MIS 6319 (taken with Dr. Thompson) offering, which was a course that satisfied both the enterprise systems and SAP TERP10 requirement. Although it was a challenge, I knew that the effort would pay off in the long run and it would give me the extra edge needed in our progressively, transforming information age.

The MS in ITM program under the Enterprise Planning track at UTD has been a great learning experience for me. As an IT engineer, I worked in SAP Labs India as a Software Developer for 3 years. Being technically sound, I wanted to explore and grow my functional knowledge as well. Keeping this in mind and with my experience with SAP, MS-ITM in Enterprise System was the perfect platform for me to flourish in my career. The Enterprise Systems track is recommended for students interested in developing and managing large-scale applications and IT infrastructure.

After joining UTD in Fall 2015, I became a part of one of the student organizations – SAP Users’ Group (SUG) as the Newsletter Editor and Playground Session Organizer. I got an opportunity to share my technical knowledge with the other members of SUG in one of the playground sessions. Also, I published three Newsletter throughout the year which helped me to polish my writing and managing skills. I was promoted as the President of SUG in the next year which helped me to improve my leadership and networking skills.

With the help of all this learning at SUG, JSOM and the wonderful coursework, I got an opportunity to work as an Intern with Visual BI Solutions – SAP Partner. I am now working full-time with the same company as Senior BI Consultant.

Lastly, I would like to say that I am really grateful to all the faculties and advisors of JSOM – UTD especially Professor Lou Thompson – Faculty Advisor SUG for all the opportunities and support.
