Bachelor of Science in Information Technology and Systems
The Bachelor of Science in Information Technology and Systems (BS ITS) is a 120 semester credit hour STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) degree program that provides students with a solid foundation in business and information technology. The Information Technology degree focuses on addressing business challenges and creating new opportunities with technology. ITS students will gain the necessary skills to solve business challenges using information technology while also creating new opportunities with technology.
The program features a series of core information technology courses designed to provide a solid foundation in the design and delivery of IT in business processes across many industries. Students specialize in a particular area of information technology by taking guided elective courses. A capstone course in the program allows students to apply their knowledge to solve real-world business problems.
Students are encouraged to pursue a double degree.

Information technology and systems are present in all aspects of modern living — information systems allow customers to order airline tickets online, shop for and buy products online, and connect with people around the globe. Information technology and systems are crucial in helping businesses make decisions and run websites.
The workforce increasingly relies on on-the-job technology. Many organizations provide some training in IT Management. However, employees who have an in-depth understanding of how to use IT and take advantage of the opportunities IT can provide their organizations are in a stronger career position than their peers without this understanding. The ITS labor market continues to grow ITS professionals who understand both technology and business.
ITS professionals work with technology and must have sound technical knowledge of computers, communications and software because they operate within organizations and use organizational systems.

- Why STEM?
- The top 10 bachelor-degrees with the highest median earnings are in STEM fields.
- The average annual wage for all STEM occupations was $77,880 in May 2009, significantly above the U.S. average of $43,460 for non-STEM occupations.

Enterprise Systems Minor
The Enterprise Systems minor prepares students for careers as functional and technical enterprise systems professionals. It features hands-on courses with SAP, the market-leading enterprise resource planning software package. Students completing this minor are eligible to attend the SAP Consultant Certifications academy (SAP TERP10). They also may take the SAP Business One Certification exam.
Business Intelligence and Analytics Minor
The Business Intelligence and Analytics minor prepares students for careers as data analysts who deal with large-scale data. It provides hands-on skills in business data warehousing and intelligence software.
ITS professionals are business-oriented, technology-proficient individuals who work in work in industries such as banking and finance, telecommunications, manufacturing, government and public service, healthcare and transportation.
ITS professionals hold various positions within an organization. Job titles include systems analysts, application and software developers, consultants, computer analysts, business analysts and chief information officers (CIOs).

The Information Systems Area and the Career Management Center in the Naveen Jindal School of Management work with local companies to develop internship programs for students. Often these internships convert into full-time jobs. The Career Management Center also organizes career fairs to connect students with employers for full-time jobs. Note to international students: International students are eligible to work on a curricular internship for a maximum of 12 months while they remain students. Since the Bachelor of Science in Information Technology and Systems is an approved STEM degree program, graduating students are eligible to work for up to 29 months under the OPT program. Please contact the Office of International Student Services for details about these programs.
