What do you enjoy about your current position/profession?

I enjoy working with teams of strong open-minded talent who look to change our customers’ lives through innovation and world-class service.

How do you see your profession changing in the next five or 10 years?

The COO has to be a high energy and dynamic person willing to shift and move. COOs must revolutionize organizations to be proactive to market shifts; being just responsive is not enough.

What unexpected experience or event has shaped and/or influenced your current professional life?

I don’t believe there is one, but hundreds of learning moments, failures and great coaching from some brilliant people. I guess you could say turning my ears on was likely that event.

What is a professional highlight of your career, either where you currently work or in the past?

I’ve had many highly successful product launches and new market entries, however mentoring and coaching young professionals is the most rewarding when they persist and succeed in their field.

What characteristics do you look for when hiring people into your workplace?

Work ethic, perpetual students of the cause, and those who will take the initiative – those who don’t wait.

Why did you come to UT Dallas?

Quality of faculty.

What advice do you have for college students hoping to succeed professionally?

Do not ignore the social aspects of college, the workplace is a social environment and culture is built on the human interactions and leadership molding of mood. Have fun – your smile will change those around on its own.

Did a UT Dallas professor inspire you? Who was that and how was that person inspirational?

Almost everything I experienced inspired me. Dr. Mike Peng, who teaches business policy and strategy classes, likely left the biggest mark on my strategic thinking.

Has something about your UT Dallas education surprised you since graduating?

How applicable it was to real-life scenarios.

What is your favorite UT Dallas memory?

Great cohorts and faculty. I am still in touch with them, and enjoy seeing their successes.

What makes an effective leader?

Emotional intelligence and having the courage to lead from the front.

What do you enjoy doing in your free time?

Spending time with my family and watching my kids encounter new frontiers.
