Highlights of the Proposed MS in Accounting Flex Degree Plan

The Master of Science in Accounting Flex Program is a minimum 36 semester-credit-hour degree program at the Naveen Jindal School of Management. The program’s six tracks are designed for students with various educational backgrounds and provide flexibility in curriculum choice to prepare students interested in pursuing a broad array of career opportunities. Students have the opportunity to pursue various professional certifications as well as double-degree options.

Advanced Professional Accounting Track

The advance professional accounting track is uniquely designed for students who have completed an undergraduate degree in accounting. Graduates of this track would pursue a career in public accounting and would acquire the CPA certification.

Professional Accounting Track

The professional accounting track is best suited for students who did not complete an undergraduate degree in accounting but have decided to pursue a public accounting career. These students would prepare and seek a CPA certification.

Taxation Track

The taxation track attracts students from a wide variety of educational backgrounds who aspire to obtain a career in taxation and obtain a CPA certification.

Internal Audit and Risk Assurance Track

The internal audit and risk assurance track helps students with varied backgrounds prepare for these two unique accounting career opportunities. Students can pursue two certifications to obtain certified internal auditor (CIA) or certified information systems auditor (CISA).

Accounting Analytics Track

The accounting analytics track is open to students from a wide variety of academic backgrounds. Students can also choose to prepare themselves for the certified management accountant certification (CMA). This robust and growing field allows students to combine their knowledge of accounting with the analytics tools courses.

Research Track

This track prepares students of varied backgrounds who intend to pursue a doctoral degree (PhD) with an accounting concentration at a leading university.

Note: These curriculum changes are still pending full UT Dallas Academic Governance approval for the fall 2019 catalog. Students on the current degree plan may opt into the new degree plan after the catalog is officially published in the summer by completing the Change of Catalog Form with their graduate advisor. If students opt into the new degree plan, they may not revert to the prior degree plan.
