A trio of Jindal School students recently earned first place and $3,000 in the third annual North Texas Case Competition held by the American College of Healthcare Executives.

Full-time MBA students Isaac Hernandez and Madison Vinklarek teamed with Veeraj Thakkar, an MS in Healthcare Management major, to win the competition, held November 15, in tandem with a North Texas ACHE general membership meeting in Irving.

The North Texas chapter of the American College of Healthcare Executives, which works to improve healthcare by addressing the professional needs of medical-industry administrators and managers, has more than 1,300 members in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex and 19 surrounding counties. Besides sharing the cash prize, the JSOM team earned reimbursement of their ACHE student membership fees.

Last year, another JSOM team tied for first place in the competition, which asks students to analyze and make investment and expenditure decisions on behalf of an imaginary hospital or hospital system in a hypothetical, but reality-based scenario.

Dr. Forney W. Fleming, director of the Jindal School’s MS in Healthcare Management program, advised the team. The trio also got coaching help from John McCracken, director of JSOM’s Healthcare Management for Physicians program, and Kannan Ramanathan, a JSOM faculty member who teaches healthcare management courses.
