Fraud Summit Accepting Registration to Waitlist

Jindal School Fraud Summit
Mark Salamasick, founding director of the Center for Internal Auditing Excellence, addresses conferees at the 2011 Fraud Summit. Salamasick, now executive director of audit at The University of Texas Systems, and JSOM’s internal audit program were honored last year with an endowment established by the Dallas Chapter of the Institute of Internal Auditors.

Once again, the Fraud Summit, hosted by the Naveen Jindal School of Management, is sold out. Those interested in attending the two-day event on March 31 and April 1 may add their name to the waitlist, here.

This year’s 11th annual conference, sponsored by the Institute of Internal Auditors, JSOM’s Center for Internal Auditing Excellence, the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners and ISACA (Information Systems Audit and Control Association), will be held at The University of Texas at Dallas campus. Keynote speakers are Richard Bowen, a former Citigroup executive who blew the whistle on subprime mortgages; and Joanne Fox Phillips, an author and expert in sabotage and fraud.

Attendees select from one of three workshops for Thursday, March 31. Workshops offered are:

Fraud Risk
with Scott Langlinais:

Those who attendees will learn to address risks and practical solutions for weaving fraud detection into daily activities. Attendees will gain an understanding of what can go wrong within their organization, learn how to recognize symptoms of wrongdoing and explore techniques for detecting those symptoms. Participants will develop an instructor-guided risk and response plan for their own environments.

Internal Control and Anti-Fraud Program Design with Steve Dawson:

This workshop focuses on learning how to design and implement an efficient anti-fraud program. Anti-fraud programs do not have to be complicated or difficult to implement. They should be simple and practical. This workshop will provide a blueprint for designing an anti-fraud program, identifying policies that should be considered, including effective control activities and initiating efficient monitoring strategies.

Cross-Dimensional Aspects of Fraud and IT Risk with Crowe Horwath:

Because of the growing availability of organizational data, the proliferation of user-friendly technologies and an increasingly complex regulatory environment, organizations often struggle to manage IT risk. This workshop will cover data breaches and discovery, risk response, forensic accounting and cyber-risk awareness.

On Friday, April 1, attendees will select from a number of shorter, topical presentations.
