Biography
Professor Ozel joined the Jindal School of Management in mid-2015. His research area is empirical financial accounting with a focus on the role of financial information in the functioning of capital markets. He conducts research in two related fields. The first set of papers examines the role and uses of accounting disclosures in the market for corporate debt securities including bonds, loans, and leases. The second set of papers explores the usefulness of accounting information in understanding and predicting economic activity at the industry-level, or local- and macro-economy levels. Ozel teaches Accounting for Managers at UTD Jindal. Prior to joining UTD, he was at UCLA Anderson where he taught Financial Accounting in the FEMBA and Empirical Financial Accounting in the Ph.D. programs. He was awarded the Dean George W. Robbins Award for teaching excellence at UCLA in 2014.
