Bachelor of Science in MIS
Bachelor of Science in Management Information Systems (MIS) students acquire the skills necessary for analyzing, designing and delivering organizational information technology services. The bachelor’s degree in MIS prepares future information technology (IT) leaders for challenging and rewarding careers as enterprise systems professionals, information security analysts, healthcare technology professionals and IT consultants.
The curriculum provides a high degree of flexibility enabling students focus on areas that best suit their individual career objectives.
The Enterprise Systems area prepares students for careers as functional and technical enterprise systems professionals. It features hands-on courses with market-leading enterprise resource planning software packages.
The Business Intelligence and Analytics area prepares students for careers as data analysts. It provides hands-on skills in business data warehousing and intelligence software.
The Information Security and Assurance area prepares students for careers as information security analysts, information technology auditors and security specialists who ensure the confidentiality, integrity and availability of organizational information resources.
The Systems Development area prepares students for careers as IT consultants and developers. This area emphasizes the identification, design and construction of custom information technology to satisfy business needs, uncover new opportunities and create business value.
MIS graduates find employment in every industry including financial services, retail, manufacturing, consulting, technology and telecommunications, government and many more. Our students have gotten internships and jobs at some of the top corporations in the state and nation.
Obtaining specific IT certifications can enhance career prospects. The JSOM program offers various courses to prepare students to sit for certification exams. We recommend that students acquire necessary knowledge and skills to obtain certification in at least one area. SAP Consultant certification can be completed by taking courses and programs available at UT Dallas. Other popular certifications include Certified IS Auditor (CISA), CISSP, CISM and CompTIASecurity+. Courses available within the MIS area will prepare students to take these exams.

Enterprise Systems MinorThe enterprise systems minor prepares students for careers as functional and technical enterprise systems professionals. It features hands-on courses with SAP, the market leading enterprise resource planning software package. Students completing this minor are eligible to attend the SAP Consultant Certifications academy (SAP TERP10). They also may take the SAP Business One Certification exam. The enterprise systems minor requires completion of following courses:
Students completing the enterprise systems minor will be eligible to participate in SAP Business One and / or TERP 10 certification programs.
