Career Management Center

Naveen Jindal School of Management

January 2013

Message from the Assistant Dean

Tom KimStudents have a lot to manage while going to college, from signing up for classes and studying to paying for school.  Whether you are graduating this spring or finishing your freshman year, the Career Management Center can help reduce the stress of finding a job.  We are here to assist students and graduates seeking a general part-time position, internship or full-time job after graduation.

Many students may be unaware of the help they can receive, such as:

  • Confidential, individualized career advising and development services
  • Resume consultation
  • Job search consultation
  • Mock interviewing
  • Career development packets
  • Job prep workshops
  • Employer guest speakers on campus

The goal of the Career Management Center is to help every student start his or her career plan on day one – focusing on all aspects of the job search, finding a position during school, and ultimately finding a job after graduation.  We host a variety of workshops, networking events and guest speakers throughout the semester.  These events help students learn firsthand from the experts and employers what their industry likes to see in terms of skill set and knowledge.

The Career Management Center’s schedule of events can be found on our website, CareerWorks, Comet Calendar, and Facebook.  Be sure to like us on Facebook, follow us on Twitter, and join our LinkedIn group.

Our office hours are Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.  To make an appointment, call us at (972) 883-6916, email us at jindal.career@utdallas.edu or stop by our office in the Jindal School, room 2.301.
—Tom Kim, Assistant Dean of the Career Management Center

Student Spotlight: Ritu Katarya

Tom KimRitu Katarya, a graduate ITM major, utilized the Career Management Center and landed a full-time position upon graduation this spring.  After six levels of competitive screening, Ritu was selected to join Citi Group’s renowned Technology Leadership Program (TLP).

Ritu originally applied for a summer internship with Citi, but was pleasantly surprised when she was instead contacted for the full-time TLP IT Management Associate position.  The interview process was intense.  The final round of on-site interviews, known as the Superday Challenge, was comprised of a HR Interview, Technology Manager Interview, Individual Case Study, and Group Case Study.  “I leveraged a lot of the CMC resources, especially the Interviewing Strategies handout and the tips and tricks taught to me during a one-on-one appointment.  These helped me immensely to deliver a convincing performance before the interview panel and case study rounds.”

“Thank you so very much, CMC!  I am glad I was able to make the most of the valuable resources available to us through the Career Management Center!”

The program begins in mid-July 2013.  Good luck, Ritu!  We are so proud of you!
