Throughout your life, networking will be one of the most effective strategies for advancing your career. Therefore, it is incredibly important that you learn how to network correctly. The Career Management Center offers a number of workshops designed to hone your networking skills. Attend our Industry Forums to engage with employers and put your networking skills into action. You can also network through social media outlets. Don’t miss the “LinkedIn and Social Media Strategies Workshop” on November 5.

Meet Linda Park, Director of the CMC
The Career Management Center is pleased to introduce our new director, Linda Park. Linda comes to UT Dallas with more than 20 years of corporate experience in services, operations, engineering and marketing. Her extensive experience leading global organizations has helped her to develop key relationships with employers in the DFW community. Linda’s new responsibilities in the CMC will include employer relations, career advising and program development. Please give Linda a warm welcome.

October Focus: Networking
Networking has proven to be an effective strategy for finding a job or internship. It provides an opportunity to gain an insider’s perspective about an organization, career paths and responsibilities. While job and internship leads can be found through a variety of search methods, including employer websites and career fairs, recent students demonstrate how important networking has become in the workplace. Individuals are more comfortable hiring someone they know and often look to associates for referrals. Use our Networking Resources to develop and to maximize your professional network.
Student Spotlight: Internships
Joshua Christie, a junior accounting major, has used the Career Management Center on multiple occasions. He credits the CMC for helping him obtain an internship at the FDIC, which ultimately led to a full-time job offer. “The Career Management Center helped me improve my résumé and met with me several times until it was perfect. Furthermore, I found out about the internship with the FDIC through CareerWorks. The School of Management’s commitment to equip students for the workforce has helped me gain a competitive edge. I now have a permanent job offer at the FDIC following my internship. I will definitely continue to use the various resources that the Career Management Center offers to support me as I begin my career.”
Prabhakar Kumar, a full-time MBA student, credits the Career Management Center with helping him land a summer internship with McAfee. “The constant motivation I received from the CMC really helped prepare me for the interview with McAfee. The wonderful CMC team provided me with the right tools, from creating an effective résumé to following up with the recruiter. One of the best services offered by the CMC is the mock interview. I felt well-prepared for my real interviews because of the feedback I received from my mock interview. Thank you, CMC team, for all your help.” The internship with McAfee has the potential to lead to a full-time job for Prabhakar. He has gained valuable experience in IT service management, marketing, communications and networking.
