Biography:

David Spivey is the founder and director of the Executive Leadership Program at the School of Management, University of Texas at Dallas. He also created and directs UTD’s online Certificate of Management (mini-MBA) program. He provides outside consulting, training and coaching services through Leadership Associates Consulting Group. His notable clients have included the Mayo Clinic, Texas Instruments, American Airlines, Countrywide Financial, RadioShack Corp., Seimens USA, Global 360 Inc., Dallas Social Venture Partners, Nokia, EMC/JP Morgan Chase and Verizon Wireless, as well as several non-profit and faith-based organizations.

He focuses on the practical application of proven techniques. He believes that people are the most important component of any organization and promotes a collaborative, forward-focused work environment where effective leadership is practiced at every level. He frequently provides executive leadership development training at corporate events. Working with global organizations to develop their leaders has taken him to numerous countries, most recently France, Mexico, Singapore, and China.

He earned his Master of Business Administration from UT Dallas. He was awarded a post-graduate research fellowship from the University of California, Berkeley, ultimately leading to a PhD in Organizational Psychology (abd). He is also a graduate of the Executive Leadership Program at Harvard University. Before joining the faculty of UT Dallas in 2002 he spent 25 years as a corporate executive, primarily in the technology and management consulting industries. In his role as the senior corporate development executive for Thomas Group, Inc., he was responsible for expanding operations in Europe and the Pacific Rim and unifying a global brand, while launching a new business channel for cultural and leadership development in client companies.

He is certified in several assessment tools, including the Leadership Practices Inventory (LPI), the DiSC Personality Profile, and the Birkman Method. He is a Certified Leadership Coach, a Master Coach Trainer and a member of the International Association of Coaching. He has authored numerous training curricula and created a proprietary assessment instrument called the Organizational Development (OD) Matrix, which uniquely identifies the major gaps in motivational factors that most directly impact organizational performance and sustainability.
