Greetings EMBA Alumni!
We’re back from Australia — a country the size of the United States with a population slightly larger than that of Texas. Our interest in Australia is its competitive advantage in five specific industries – wine, technology and communications, manufacturing, mining and transportation. We started our journey in Melbourne with a cultural visit to several wineries. On Monday, we began our company visits to Ericsson, Telstra, the Port of Melbourne, BHP Billiton and Jetstar. We learned that to be competitive you needed to be innovative and deliver great customer service. The highlight of the long drive to Canberra was seeing “mobs” of kangaroos along the highway. n Canberra, we had a panel discussion with four members of the U.S. Embassy, ate lunch with Australian Senator Zed Seselja and toured the Australian War Memorial museum. We learned that each time the government administration changes, businesses are impacted by the new administration. We ended our visit in Canberra with visit to Aspen Technology. In Sydney, we visited ResMed, Wespac Business Banking and Cochlear. We had a class with the Executive MBA students at Wollongong University Sydney Business School before socializing with them at a happy hour overlooking the Sydney Harbor.
A trip like this can’t happen without the support of a great team. I’d like to thank Connie Imhof for a wonderful job with the trip logistics (including a bus change on the fly) and Dr. Springate for his assistance in planning our day in Canberra and our university visit. To learn more about our visit, please see the highlights from the Class of 2014 and on our Facebook page.
And now on to a hearty welcome to our graduating Class of 2014. Welcome to the UT Dallas Executive MBA Alumni Council and your first alumni newsletter. Congratulations to each of you for your accomplishments over the past 21 months!

It seems like we left for Australia and when we returned the expansion had transformed from a shell into a building.
Each month, I’ll give you a snapshot of what each class is doing.
I hope you will join us on Friday evening to celebrate our 21st graduating class!
