
The Research and New Venture Showcase provides a forum for the presentation of cutting edge science and later stage projects developed within the UT system and new venture startups looking for support and funding. Each showcase will be organized around a particular technology theme, with half of the program devoted to presentations by researchers and half to presentations by new venture startups. The forum is open to UT system faculty and researchers, and selected early stage investors, venture funding firms, service providers and businesses.
Energy plays a major role in the US and global economies. Seven of the top ten companies in Fortune's Global 500 are directly involved with energy. Energy is critical to each of us in our daily lives, and energy expenditures account for about 8% of GDP worldwide.
Although the energy industry broadly includes petroleum and natural gas exploration and production, this Research and New Venture Showcase will be focused on ground-breaking research and new developments in the generation and storage of electrical energy.
On October 21, 2011, UT Dallas researchers and industry participants addressed developments impacting solar power, wind energy, storage integration and the design of advanced electronics used in the management and control of electricit.

Wireless Long Term Evolution (LTE), commonly referred to as “4G”, involves the development and deployment of next generation wireless technologies for voice and data communication. LTE offers a significant advance over 3G wireless technologies, Benefits for consumers will include much greater connection speed, rapid access to multiple types of information simultaneously (enabling new innovations and features) and lower latency supporting imporved video-conferencing, video streaming and gaming applications.
More than 40 wireless carriers have selected LTE as their next-generation wireless technology, with rollout of 4G services planned for 2010-2013 (depending on the service provider). Several local companies are actively involved with the development and deployment of LTE, inclluding the following companies that will be featured in this showcase event.

Bridgewater Systems - enables service providers to efficiently manage services and content. Over 150 service providers use their products.
Ericsson - the world’s leading provider of technology and services to telecom operators. The company provides support for networks with over 2 billion customers.
Metro PCS - one of the fastest growing wireless broadband providers in the U.S. and the fifth largest facilities-based wireless carrier.
Samsung Telecommunications - develops and markets a variety of personal and business communications products, including handheld wireless phones and wireless communications infrastructure systems.
Texas Instruments - a global semiconductory company and the leading provider of application processors for smart phones.
