BS BA with Innovation and Entrepreneurship Concentration



The Bachelor of Science in Business Administration (BSBA) degree with a concentration in Innovation and Entrepreneurship focuses on the processes of innovation and new venture development in both established organizations and startup new ventures. Emphasizing technological innovation, this multidisciplinary sequence of courses seeks to prepare students for successful careers either as founders or key functional managers in emerging growth firms, or as leaders of technological innovation in established firms.

Innovation is the engine that drives the global economy, accounting for the majority of net new job creation each year. The most exciting opportunities in the global “innovation economy” of the future will involve individuals who can manage innovation to create exceptional value for their customers. The BSBA degree with a concentration in Innovation and Entrepreneurship is designed to prepare students to hold exciting leadership positions at the forefront of this global innovation economy.

In addition to a rigorous curriculum and an exceptional classroom experience, the concentration offers students multiple opportunities to meet, learn from and network with leading industry professionals, including entrepreneurs, investment professionals and executives from major technology companies. Students are encouraged to compete in the annual UT Dallas Business Idea Competition, participate in the Entrepreneurship Club’s networking events and Distinguished Speaker Series, work as interns in support of startup companies in the UT Dallas Venture Development Center, and get involved in the community outreach programs of the award-winning UT Dallas Institute for Innovation and Entrepreneurship.

The BSBA with a concentration in Innovation and Entrepreneurship is an exciting program that engages students with relevant curriculum, in-class projects and interaction with industry professionals. A brief summary of the program is provided below:

  • Builds on the foundation provided in the introductory ENTP 3301 Entrepreneurship Course
  • Flexible 18 credit-hour concentration
    • 9 hours of concentration core courses
    • 9 hours of guided electives chosen from an extensive course list enables specialization

The BSBA with a Concentration in Innovation and Entrepreneurship (18 Credit Hours):

  • Builds on the foundation provided in the introductory ENTP 3301 Entrepreneurship Course
  • Entrepreneurship Core (9 hours selected from the following list of courses):
    • ENTP 3360 (FIN 3360) Entrepreneurial Finance
    • ENTP 4311 Entrepreneurial Strategy and Business Models
    • ENTP 4320 Small Business Management or ENTP 4350 Corporate Entrepreneurship
  • Guided Entrepreneurship Electives (9 hours selected from the list below. Note, at least 3 of the 9 total hours must have an ENTP prefix.)
    • The remaining Entrepreneurship Core course not taken above (either ENTP 4320 Small Business Management or ENTP 4350 Corporate Entrepreneurship)
    • ENTP 3320/3321 Start-up Launch
    • ENTP 4340 Social Entrepreneurship
    • ENTP 4360 Innovation and Creativity
    • ENTP 4V90 Innovation and ENTP Internship (1 to 3 semester hours)
    • IMS 4310 Export Market Development or IMS 4320 International Marketing
    • MKT 3330 Personal Sales and Sales Management
    • MKT 3340 Market Research
    • MKT 4330 Digital and Internet Marketing
    • Another upper level course may be substituted for the non-ENTP courses listed above with advance permission
